Erin earns a lot of money for the NFL......Mediocre Matty not so much. But the NFL is still very concerned about keeping their money makers on the field.

You noticed it a couple of times this weekend ... defensive players not finishing off the QB for fear of penalty. If you aren't going to let the defensive guys finish a tackle on the QB, then they shouldn't let the QB shrug off contact and extend the play.

      • Agree. It makes no sense.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

NFL is a business and everybody is in it to make as much as possible, the player on the field that bring in the most revenue are the QBs, these are the guys people pay to see. You would only be hurting yourself if you intend to knock a QB out of the game and potentially end his season.
Thanks for your opinion on the matter.

          • London boy Jay Ajaji out for the season. Wonder if Philly would like an Ameer Abdullah? They won’t even notice the difference.

              • Shurmur and the NY media heading for a collision? Glad to see him not ripping up trees over there, especially after they blatantly leaked the Patricia story to the media.

                • Report: Cardinals trying to trade LB Bucannon

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Cardinals are "stepping up their efforts" in an attempt to trade LB Deone Bucannon.

A first-round pick in 2014, Bucannon doesn't seem to be fitting in with new coach Steve Wilks' defense. He's playing this season on an $8.718 million club option and will be a free agent after the season, so it's going to be really hard to find a team willing to take on that salary. Bucannon's gone from playing 100% of the snaps in Week 1 to one snap in Week 3 and four snaps in Week 5. He has received atrocious run-defense and poor pass-coverage marks from Pro Football Focus.

                  • Jags add RB Charles to banged up backfield

Jaguars signed RB Jamaal Charles to a one-year contract.

With Corey Grant done for the season and Leonard Fournette (hamstring) out for Week 6, the Jags need a change of pace behind T.J. Yeldon. 31-year-old Charles wasn't his former self in Denver last season, but he did average a respectable 4.28 yards per carry for a bad team.

                    • Chargers Owner Alex Spanos Passes Away

October 9th, 2018 at 9:47pm CST by Ben Levine

The Los Angeles Chargers announced the death of their owner, AlexSpanos, earlier today. He was 95 years old.

“Alex Spanos is an American success story, driven by a tireless work ethic inspired by humble beginnings as the son of Greek immigrants,” said commissioner Roger Goodell. “Alex became one of the country’s most successful businessmen, but he never forgot his roots and the call to help others. Along with Faye, his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Alex’s philanthropic and civic contributions touched many lives throughout California and around the country.

“He was a marvelous friend and partner, whose impact on the NFL will never be forgotten. We all benefited from Alex’s compassion, character and zest for football and life. On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our deepest condolences to Dean, the entire Spanos family and the Chargers organization.”

Spanos purchased 60-percent of the Chargers for $70MM back in 1984, and he eventually worked his way up to 97-percent ownership of the organization. The team won the 1994 AFC Championship, and they made the playoffs nine times since Spanos took over. The owner turned over day-to-day operations to his son back in 1994, although he still played a major role in the business aspects of the organization. His son, DeanSpanos, is currently the team’s chairman and controlling owner.

It sounds like this will continue to be the case. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times tweets that Spanos’ death won’t impact the ownership of the organization. The death also won’t effect “what type of stake the family will have in the franchise moving forward.”

We at PFR offer our thoughts and condolences to Spanos’ friends and family.

                        • I have no idea why in the crap the Lions didn't draft Maurice Hurst. Dude was 1st round draft pick material. I would have been cool with drafting Hurst in the 3rd round let alone the 5th.

                          per PFF

But the star of the class and of the defense has been defensive tackle, Maurice Hurst. Through five weeks, Hurst has been the team’s best defender, bar none. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s been the highest-graded defensive player on the roster.

Hurst has just two sacks on the season, but he’s been a force each week. Whether it’s taking on double teams or making plays in the backfield, Hurst has been as good as advertised. You can make a strong case he has been one of the best rookie defenders in the entire league in 2018.

The Raiders will need to continue to add talent to their defensive line in 2019 and beyond. But it looks like they hit on a star in Hurst in the fifth-round.

but we'd have missed out on Tracey Walker! To be fair to Quinn, he did seem to grab a pretty good player in the 4th with D'Shawn Hand at the same/similar position.

I agree about Hand. He's been damned good in his own right but getting Hurst and Hand in the same draft would have been remarkable. Hurst was a legit first rounder who got screwed over by a medical condition that no one seems to care about anymore. He's a baller

Time will tell. Isn't that the same condition that Fairley has?
