My hopes and projections? What does that even mean? Then you quote don Meredith? Man you sure showed me..

That's a very good question, surprised you don't know the answer. All you have to do is look at state of the NFL to know what it is. Start with asking yourself, who are those consistent winners? Particularly playoff winner that take thier teams consistently deep into the playoffs.

So lets start with the NFC - 9 of the 16 teams had QBs less than 2 years experience - by definition they can't meet the consistency standard. Let do a further breakdown. Who are the consistent winners in the NFC East? You can maybe make an argument for Manning, but he's never been consistent and I think his run is over. Next is the North - the only consistent winner there is Rodgers - but he's on IR. Now the west - Wilson is your only candidate, he didn't made the playoffs being squeezed out by the three teams in the south. So now lets look at the south - The three usual suspects from the south made the playoffs.

But you'll have to agree, as I pointed out in different post - the powerhouse QBs for the last 16 years have not been in the NFC, it's been the AFC - where 10 of the last 16 Super Bowls have been won by just three QBs - and those same three played in 4 additional Super Bowls. So now lets look at the AFC.

So again start with asking your self who are those dominant consistent QBs - well there's only two standing - One is playing today - the most consistent of course. And the other got beat last week - it happens.

So the answer to your question is something I pointed out a couple of days ago - the NFL is in a transition period where there are a lot of young QBs emerging and it's quite possible the next era of dominant consistent QBs could be in the NFC.

What you are labeling as a phenomenon is anything but - it's simply a result of numbers game of very few remaining dominant QBs and a league in transition to the next group.

The next question should be - who are those emerging dominant QBs?

Mediocre? By every measure of a QB that I know of, Stafford is a top QB, and at a minimum above average.

              • His record of accomplishment doesn't reflect that assessment. He routinely beat bad teams and loses to good team - he's the best of the worst, the worst of the best - Mediocre Matty.

Seriously - By every measure? Seriously? Pro football reference measures the career of every player and makes an assessment of Players whose career was of similar quality and shape to that player. If you go to Mediocre Matty's page this is the list players most closely similar to Mediocre Matty's. point out the top QBs in this list.

Jake Delhomme, Scott Mitchell, Andy Dalton, Aaron Brooks, David Garrard, Chad Pennington, Mark Rypien, Matt Cassel, Cam Newton, Doug Flutie

The formula to success in the playoffs always has and always will be 2 things:

                  1) Protect the football
                  2) Don't beat yourself (the opponent is hard enough to beat as it is, having to overcome them and yourself is a bridge too far)

Even then that may not be enough, but you will virtually always have a chance to win the game (playoffs or not) if you do those 2 things.

Minny did everything they were supposed to:

                  Won the Turnover battle
                  Were the least penalized team
Were ridiculously good on 3rd down
                  Won the time of possession
                  Had no ST blunders

Still, after all that they needed a CB on the opposing team to shit his pants at the worst possible moment. Football can be that cruel.......

Every once in a while we get treated to a gem of a play (Clark TD catch, Immaculate Reception, Dempsey's 63 yarder, etc), but more often than not it's of this variety (Byner's fumble going in for the winning score, DB's forgetting what their responsibility is (Denver v Baltimore and NO v Minn), 3 stupid Lions defensive penalties allowing Dallas to drive for the game winning score, having 2 defenders neither rush the QB or drop into coverage on a Hail Mary play (Det vs GB), etc).

The 3 rules of football that are time tested, specially in January or later. They are:

                    1) Run the ball well
                    2) Defend the run well
                    3) Win/Do not lose the turnover battle

BS. The LIONS lose to good teams. It is never about 1 guy. Stafford generally plays well enough to win. The Lions find a way to lose as a team.

Bull shit - I challenge you to just review the loses this year to good teams, Mediocre Matty played poorly in every one of them.

The drive that changed the complexion of the game was just before halftime when Jacksonville lost their composure. They beat themselves on that drive and let the GOAT back in the game. The did all 3 of the things you listed, they gave away a TD they couldn't afford to give away.

So the lack of a running game, poor blocking, collapsing defense, questionable and predictable play calling, and career high sacks had nothing to do with it. Don't tunnel. Open your eyes.

His claim to fame is counting stats that are based off repetition other QB's don't see and come from behind wins against mediocre teams. The latter is just as damning as it is impressive.

                                Stats speak for the individual.

                                Wins speak for the team.

Stafford does his part every year. The running game, the defense do not always show up. This year when the defense showed up, the Lions won. The problem is our defense never shows up against good offenses.
