So, who was in that "group" that wanted Williams? If Mayhew had a hand in that and still replaced Millen later on...??? I don't know what I can say about it that hasn't been said before. Convention full of idiots at that place.

Until now. With this plain as day confession, I forgive you Matt Millen. I now hope you find the health fix you need.
My pick was Derrick Johnson ..... both he and Ware would have been excellent choices.

It is refreshing to hear a story like that, even if the pain of all the losses still resonates.

Never disliked Millen the man ... hated Millen the GM.

Yes sir. Driving down from Bethlehem (via So Cal) to take the train into NYC with you (Stamford?) was a highlight for me.

Millen is a great guy who was just in over his head as a GM. According to his son, who is now a pastor, Millen wanted to draft Ware but gave in to others who wanted Mike Williams. He didn't exactly ruin the Lions. The Lions have sucked for 60 years. This was a good look into who he is...

We met up with a bunch of other current and former posters and hung out together.

Indeed, a memorable (and long day) trip.

Btw, turns out that I saw Alex Smith, QB, eventual Chiefs QB, go #1 overall that same draft. Oddity for me down the road.

Uhhh, no. He flew to NY for the draft. I almost went but, instead opted to chaperone my 8th grader on a trip to DC. The trip was a lot better than the draft turned out.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

I flew my family to Hartford, CT, rented a Caddy, drove to visit family in Bethlehem for about a week. I then drove to where Coop was living and we took the train into NYC and met everyone there. I then trekked back to Bethlehem after the draft (same day).

I believe he was joking but the record is straight.

The greatest villain in Lions history has been identified.
