FORUM POSTING RULES - Read before posting

Forum Rules.

(1) The guiding principle for posting in this forum is moderate yourselves.

(2) Don't write a post that attacks, impugns or denigrates another poster's character. There's an obvious difference between the language of humor and hateful, debased language. Know the difference and post accordingly.

(3) This is a Michigan sports forum. The forum welcomes posts from M's sports rivals. Talking smack, posting sass is what college sports rivalries are all about. Rules (1) and (2) above apply. If you don't want to view the posts of a rival talking smack or sassing, use the ignore feature in User Controls.

(4) This forum is about sharing thoughts, ideas and viewpoints about all sports, any number of subjects and issues, learning stuff from other posters and having fun. There are threads by subject matter within the forum for doing this. Keep the threads on point.

NB: The rules above are not intended to build a case to ban a poster. There are consequences for rule breaking as specified below. That's as far as it should go. Only the most egregious and persistent rule breaking would cause the moderators to consider a ban.

Due Process.

(1) The forum has 6 moderators. Jeff Buchanan, Jon, JD, Hannibal, Oracle, Entropy. None of them want to moderate adult posters who should know better. There may be posts that break the rules.

(2) Posters who, at the sole discretion of a moderator, break a rule will be given a warning post that will site one of the rules listed above as the reason for the deletion.

(3) If the rule breaking behavior continues, a moderator can remove an offending post and any ensuing post that whines about that action. If a moderator removes a post(s) the reason for the removal(s) will be posted with the removal notice that appears in the thread. This should be the end of it. Man up, take responsibility for breaking the rules. The forum moves on. If not, see below.

(4) A poster who has had a warning or a post(s) removed can certify a question by PM to any moderator about that action. Do not complain about the action or attempt to make your case in the forum/threads. Moderators shall do their best to address the question within 72h. At the end of 72h the majority opinion of the moderators responding will be the answer.

(5) Banning a poster for egregious and repeated rule breaking requires a unanimous vote to ban from all 6 moderators. We don't anticipate this will ever happen.

      And if they nominate Avenatti?

      • If they nominate Avenatti then our politics will continue to show that we can always go lower. Harris is at least a credible #GentryProg.

Fortunately, Avenatti is too white and too male. Only one of them dudes that has a chance is Joe Biden. And I would probably break my no Ds pledge and vote for him. But I think there's next to no chance he gets nominated, even if he decides to run.

              • Avenatti needs a role, but a supporting one. As an attack dog. He's got more of that combo of clarity and aggression than most of the rest of the party combined, if you take our Warren. IMO the Ds are without question going to screw this up. They let Kavanaugh ragewhine about search-and-destroy and failed to point out that he's the architect of that very tactic. They've been handed the best and most enduring GOTV tool I can imagine, and I've no doubt they'll waste that.

Either way, the biggest losers yesterday were teen girls and reality. Whatever you think of the motivations of Ds, the point of this process is to vet a SCOTUS nominee. Somehow it was determined that sexual assault would be a big deal in a way that being a judicial partisan hatcetman would not, so we have chosen to unfollow the money and let this ride on the sex. Or pretend to. It's quite a bit of magical thinking to believe her as well as him. Someone is either lying or has a shit memory. It could be the woman whose allegations are true or not true regardless of who pays her costs, and has taken a polygraph, or it could be the blackout drunk who has been caught in several lies and hasn't taken a polygraph. We could take a few days to find out, or we could just indulge in the magical thinking.

                    Whataboutism? Cool.

Re Gorsuch, they had no chance to stop that. They couldn't fuck up the works for 2 years. He was still only confirmed 54-45. They have a chance to stop the appointment entirely (Kav or whomever) if they can run some more clock. That's driving everything. EV-REEE-THING.
Couldn't they find another women to lie about Gorsuch the was you guys are saying the Clintons and Feinstein did in finding Ford to lie?

Its more than just whataboutism, he was the guy demanding investigators get Foster hair follicles from Vince Foster's daughter. His actions during that investigation were awful. He's playing martyr, but when he was an investigator he had no qualms about accuse the Clintons of murdering Vince Foster and Vince Foster of an affair with Hillary Clinton. Was he in the right there? Its OK to do that.

Yes. A chief architect of search-and-destroy bitched about it being turned back on him, and nobody in the room pointed this out. When I question people, they aren't under oath and aren't forced to talk to me. Give me the terms of engagement those senators had. I could destroy that entitled shithead.

Why blow your orchestrated smear load on someone so far away from election day? I pretty much explained exactly why they didn't go after Gorsuch. But, for your reading (again):

                            Thank You, Brett Kavanaugh

Over the past two weeks, Brett Kavanaugh has been subjected to the worst character assassination I have ever witnessed — and, trust me, that’s saying something. That’s why the decision made by Republicans to avoid a serious cross-examination of Christine Blasey Ford was so troubling. Had the hearing ended with the first session, subjective impressions of Ford’s sincerity may have triumphed over the actual facts and evidence.

But Kavanaugh in his opening statement did what Republican senators up to that point had failed to do. He laid out the entire case for his defense in a clear and accessible way. Though tinged by justifiable emotion, he grounded himself in the evidence. He repeatedly noted that the people whom Ford placed at the party, including a female friend of hers, could not recall any such party. That fact, which in a rational world would have ended the matter before the hearing was even held, needed to be stated repeatedly. Kavanaugh recognized that, even if his Republican allies in the room did not.

As a numbers geek, I don’t usually write about issues of pure politics. But I wanted to express my gratitude to Brett Kavanaugh for being a fighter. Lesser men would have shied away, and, sadly, bravery is not something that the Republican establishment is known for. With the force of his arguments, Brett Kavanaugh may have changed that. We should all follow his example.

                            • They didn't go after Gorsuch because there wasn't anything is the simplest answer.

Talent - how do you think they got Ford to lie like that?

                              • Murkowski, Collins, Munchin and Heitkamp are the only undeclareds at this point. I think there's still plenty of time for the Ds orchestrated efforts to carry the day. Perhaps another gang rape story will do the trick. Long time until there is a Senate floor vote. Either way, great job by Kav yesterday and, of course, Senator Graham.
