  • Boston is stocking up the picks. They dropped 2 spots and picked up 2018 and 2019 1st rounders from Philly. Boston will be good for a LONG time

That's the problem. Right now, you have two teams that ARE going to the Finals, and 28 teams that have no reason to show up.

This is good in the world of Froot Loops.

      • The current World Champions were built on the trio of a late lotto pick(7th), a late lotto pick (11th) and a second round pick(35). The assembled their team by drafting well and trading well, the cherry on top was getting Durant because they had cap space.

The Celtic had the #1 seed in the East being led by the #60 pick of the 2011 draft.

The current Pistons have zero percent chance because they blow their wad on any player that shows any skill like Drummond.

Now lets start the KCP discussion. Do we resign him to a near max? I say hell no.

The Pistons just need to get better one piece at a time. This year was a step back.
30 years ago College players were still staying 3-4 years. The odds are you were getting a good player that needed a little time to adjust to the NBA level.

Today, the landscape is totally different. Not to mention that you can't bully your way to anything in today's NBA.

Yes, but the Pistons are bad at drafting.

Agreed, no way KCP should be brought back. Considering the current cap situation and how much a team like the Nets might pay KCP... sounds like it wouldn't be worth it. KCP shot below .400 FG% last season and hasn't been a good 3 point shooter ever.
I don't think the contract value of KCP makes signing him a good idea.

Though it won't happen and the Pistons will be stuck in the middle/ below average for a while, my idea would be the Sam Hinkie approach.

I'm merely pointing out nobody said what Kstat claimed, it didn't happen. Truthfully with Isiah Thomas, you would have been laughed at, he was the man early on.

As you point out how the landscape has changed, it makes actual less sense to tank because you aren't getting fully formed players. Also, if numerous teams are tanking, the returns on that strategy aren't as big.

My main point about getting better, is they have cast the die with the Jackson and Drummond contracts, they can't really trade those contracts. Nobody wants them at that price and/or you get nothing in return.

                • Jordan was "The Man" early on and he didn't win squat either. Not sure what the point with Isiah is. Supporting casts are essential.

If the Pistons today don't have even 1 guy they can build a team around, well in todays landscape it's going to take a decade at least before they can seriously challenge for a title in a sport that makes sure it's best players can stay on the court for 45 of the 48 minutes of every game.

                  • Reggie's knee seemed to derail their plan. Remember they were coming on well in 2016 and actually played well vs the Cavs in the playoffs. Now I they're stuck. Can they find a way to get back on that positive track? If not I say blow it up.

The Celtics had the #1 seed in the East solely because the Cavaliers didn't care enough.

When it came time for the games to actually matter... let's just say the series went 5 games because Cleveland was so bored by the insignificant challenge Boston posed that they fell asleep in Game 3.

But keep pretending that any other team has a chance in hell. They don't.

                      • Here's a Pistons opportunity to acquire Jordan Clarkson, a guy that would truly make minimal impact, by shipping the 12th overall pick:

Lakers looking to add another first-round draft pick, sources say
The Lakers already have two first-round picks in Thursday's draft, but sources tell ESPN that the team is attempting to acquire another selection as it looks to improve its outside shooting and perimeter defense.

... trying to be more optimistic: maybe Stanley Johnson has a breakout season in year 3. Could the RJ and Drummond combo bounce back? OR the Pistons find a trade partner to relieve RJ's contract. Ellenson looked good at the end of last season. Pistons hit on the 12th overall pick because GS did it multiple times. Donovan Mitchell, Luke Kennard, or Henry Giles. The Eastern Conference is weaker as a whole compared to the Western Conference. Little Caesars Arena, mic drop.

True on the Celtics this year, but you're missing the point. They got to the Eastern Conference Finals without tanking. They have assets to make the team better and cap room. They are in a much better spot than a team using the Process. Cleveland is a good team, but they are not some super team.

Your approach seems to be sit on the sidelines with your binky because life is so unfair that the NBA allows super teams. The Pistons problem with Lebron James being in the East is a bridge far off in the distance. They can't even get to the playoffs consistently and they continue to get themselves into trouble by getting saddled with bad conteacts.

My approach is that the Pistons have to get better, and the only way they can do that is through the draft. Since they have no chance in hell of accomplishing anything as they are currently constructed, why not blow it up? Trade whatever pieces you can, let marginal players walk and just ride out the string. Stop trying to squeak into the playoffs just to get curbstomped by the Cavs.

                            • Your approach is what they are doing, they aren't going to make a big splash in free agency, they will draft 12th. Jackson and Drummond have been on the block and found hardly any takers. The only rumor of note was them getting back Augustin for Jackson.

Maybe they can sign and trade KCP. They are stuck, if you want to be able to trade these assets they need to get better because right now it is a sell low if you can sell at all type of situation.

                              • And really getting curbstomped by the Cavs is better than finishing 37-45 with half empty buildings during the regular season.
