  • Federal judge issues an emergency stay allowing all those that were in transit with visas (presumably green cards too) to stay in US and not be immediately deported

    • With the immigration fiasco it got glossed over yesterday but Trump has removed the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence from the National Security Council. He's replaced them with Steve Bannon. Lord.

      • As of Friday night, DHS was interpreting the EO to not apply to green card holders. Overnight, someone at the White House overruled them and ordered that green card holders only be allowed in on a case-by-case basis.

Customs Control was telling people they might get extra scrutiny upon arrival, not detained indefinitely. Clusterfuck.

When President Donald Trump declared at the Pentagon Friday he was enacting strict new measures to prevent domestic terror attacks, there were few within his government who knew exactly what he meant.

        • Cleveland Clinic doctor deported because her passport was from Sudan

On Saturday evening, Abushamma was forced to make a choice by Customs and Border Protection agents: She could leave the country voluntarily and withdraw her visa — or she could be forcibly deported, which would have prevented her from coming back to the United States for at least five years. The latter also would have resulted in a permanent black mark on her immigration record.

Dr. Suha Abushamma’s flight back to Saudi Arabia took off minutes before a federal judge ordered such forced removals to stop. “She was basically racing against Trump,” a colleague and friend said.

            • Well, this is good ........

Yesterday evening, the ACLU with other organizations challenged Trump’s executive order on immigration in Federal District Court as violating the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the U.S. Constitution. Judge Ann M. Donnelly issued a stay, blocking President Trump’s discriminatory policy from taking effect and preventing refugees and immigrants from being deported. She did not rule on the constitutionality of the order.

There will also be a challenge to the Immigration EO on the grounds that it violates the Establishment Clause of the US Constitution.

The Establishment Clause was written by Congressman James Madison in 1789, who derived it from discussions in the First Congress of various drafts that would become the amendments comprising the Bill of Rights. The second half of the Establishment Clause includes the Free Exercise Clause, which guarantees freedom from governmental interference in both private and public religious affairs of all kinds.

The Establishment Clause is a limitation placed upon the United States Congress preventing it from passing legislation respecting an establishment of religion. The second half of the Establishment Clause inherently prohibits the government from preferring any one religion over another. While the Establishment Clause does prohibit Congress from preferring or elevating one religion over another, still it does not prohibit the government's entry into the religious domain to make accommodations for religious observances and practices in order to achieve the purposes of the Free Exercise Clause.

World leaders have roundly condemned the EO.

The wheels of democracy turn ........ there's a good chance this will turn into a positive for America and it's citizens and take a huge dump on DJT. It will be interesting to see how the President responds this coming week.

A family of Syrian Christian immigrants arrive in Philadelphia to join their US relatives after a long wait. But because of President Trump’s executive order, they are turned away.

                      • Trump or his people have now cited 9/11, the Boston bombings, San Bernardino, and Orlando as justification for the EO. Not one terrorist in any of those incidents came from the 7 banned countries.

A US Navy Seal died of wounds suffered during a raid in Yemen against al Qaeda – the first American combat death under President Donald Trump, US Central Command said Sunday.

                          • Protesting is a waste of time and energy IMO. Trump and his supporters are only encouraged by drinking the tears of the "libtards". What these people should be doing is organizing mass efforts to pressure Republican lawmakers in their states, along with those organizations and corporations who support them financially.

But we're in a protest culture...getting on CNN, sign in one hand and latte in the other, is way more cool than making phone calls day after day.

I tend to think you are correct but protesting is a visible reminder to the public and the politicians about where the people are at. I'm expecting that the raucous town halls will continue.
