  • If we want to rebuild and trade Stafford, then do it next year when we fail to make PO. New FO and Coach can trade Stafford and handpick their new QB. They'll also be able to cash in on the draft pick themselves instead of having BQ and MP use them up.

    • You might have the 10th pick next year and will have less control to pick the Stafford successor.

          Unless they tank for Trevor.

Yeah, I know it will never happen.

          • MATTHEW STAFFORDQB, DETROIT LIONS
Lions GM Bob Quinn said that trade rumors surrounding QB Matthew Stafford are "100% false!"

It would cost the Lions $32 million against the cap for Stafford to *not* be on their roster in 2020. He also thrived in his first season under new OC Darrell Bevell before breaking his back. Any rumors suggesting Stafford could be on the move are assuredly false and erroneous.

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Anything is possible, but if you were planning on doing that you would have gotten rid of Quinn. With the Lions you never know and you shouldn't dismiss illogical plans but that is illogical as it gets. If you were thinking about tanking next year, you bring in a new regime and you trade anything of value to amass draft capital.

It can't be stated enough that they optionally sat Stafford as a bumbly way to tank. He didn't want to get sat for injury purposes.

              • We can keep Stafford this year and let Tua redshirt. Then move on from Stafford next offseason. I agree the dead money this year ($32 million) is too much to overcome.

Hell,Stafford most likely gets hurt this year anyways, so Tua could get some late season run.

                • We shouldn't pass on Tua just because we have a middling Qb already. Stafford has never won anything.

                  • They have more than enough money to absorb the cap hit this year. If you are going to do it, you do it now.

                      • How do you absorb 32 mil in dead cap? Even if you draft Tua they still need to sign a FA to run things until the rookie is ready.

Theres no freaking way the Lions let Blough start game 1. Might as well just Tank for Trevor at that point.
                        F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

If they take the full hit then if you extend Golladay and Slay....pretty much done with FA. If you do deal him you have to get major stuff for Stafford

                            • Not at.all,.you still have room to work with. But remember if you are trading Stafford and it looks like they are, you are not trying to compete in 2020. We know without Stafford this team is the worst in the league so who you sign in free agency is really irrelevant if you trade Stafford. You are committing to a full scale rebuild where your record is atrocious for 2-3 years.

The next question if you decide to go full scale rebuild---are Slay and Golladay part of the future then or up for more draft picks?
