I am glad you added that exclamation mark after "properly", TLL.

Can you imagine BJ going in with Trump to help start "running things properly". I think i'd head along to my mothers church place and pray for Armageddon.

I would suggest everyone to get off social, but that isn’t going to happen. It’s all about having conversation. That’s been lost of late.
No doubt. And I agree -- social media is sooooo absurdly toxic.

This is so true for so many. Almost all the people I personally know who are very staunch supporters of a particular party grew up in households where it was ingrained. And some of them I swear couldn't even tell you why. I mean sure they could give you the tired cliches & talking points from the CNN/MSNBC or Fox News playbooks (depending on their party of preference), but they really couldn't tell you why from the bottom of their heart. All they know is my side good, their side bad.

Hey there, Niffla, good to see you posting.

Regarding that part quoted there........, I remember watching a Northern Ireland documentary many years ago and one particular guy who was interviewed lived in NI but very close to the Irish border. Every year around Orange Walk time, he'd decorate his house in Union Jacks and paint the kerb stones on the road red, white, blue. When asked why he spent so much time doing all this work, he responded, "It does take up a lot of my time to do all this and sometimes I cannot be bothered......, but......, its tradition. My dad does it. My grandfather done it and my Great grandfather."

Ingrained in him to do it, but basically he couldn't really give a shit whether it was done or not. He was asked if he would change the trend -----> "Err, no. Just keep the tradition going I think."

My gosh yes, things have changed so much. I mean there's a reason why people advise to not talk politics. And why talking politics is supposed to be a no-go at most workplaces. But now? That's really been thrown out the window. Heck I've had several people from both sides, who I either didn't know at all or barely knew, just start bringing up politics here at the office and going on rants. To me. As I sit there dumbfounded wondering how on earth I'm sitting there with a complete stranger now all of a sudden talking about politics. Yuck. And no matter what side they're coming from they're equally insufferable. It's even happened on the elevator twice! With people I have never met. Like how does get to the point where you're so consumed by it that you start talking politics with random people on a freaking elevator?

What's really concerning to me is how much discussion has become defined as political.

For example, this pandemic. Wearing a mask is a fucking political statement right now. Which is absurd. Even if you are dubious about how much it helps, or hell maybe you doubt the science, the fact that this President managed to twist wearing one into part of a goddamn "culture war" (on an aside, think of how profoundly silly that term "culture war" is) and thus a political argument to be had... fucking hell.

The virus doesn't give a fuck what your political orientation is. If it turns out that simple cloth masks actually are worthless, fine. Toss em in the trash, set 'em on fire, whatever. But you'd think that as long as the science suggests they help... that you'd want to help yourself and others. But nope! We gotta boast about how we aren't gonna be told what to do by "that woman in Michigan!"

It hurts me where my think happens.

This is the largest bombardment of info since the printing press (1440’s.) There’s the radio and TV, but nothing like this. Literally anyone with an Internet connection has access to tons of info and ability to say whatever they want. I think longterm it’s for the better, but ya, there’s going to be a clusterfuck on the fringes.

We also live in a society which puts an emphasis on material goods. Dog eat dog capitalist bullshit. Meanwhile the rich get richer, middle class gets smaller, and infrastructure and institutions crumble.

The bottom is about to fall out. And it will be televised.

Information overload is certainly a thing, but that's not really the problem here.

You have an entire segment of the population that has decided to reject reality and substitute their own (courtesy Adam Savage). This truly isn't just a matter different perspectives amplifying the fringes (society has always done that; the squeaky wheel gets the grease... the loudest voices get the microphone... it's not a new phenomenon). This is a world where "alternative facts" isn't merely just a catchphrase, but isn't met with 100% disapproval.

They know they're being stupid. They know they are being absurd. But they have willfully decided to be ignorant. A lie that allows them to pretend nothing is wrong and can they can live their lives without guilt or shame is infinitely preferable than being a fucking empathic human being and making what amounts to minor life changes to make things a little better for everyone around them. The problem isn't inherently with the information; the problem is in the people who happily gobble up bullshit while knowing that it's bullshit.

Both extreme sides can write the same words you have just penned and believe wholeheartedly their in the right.
As a matter of fact, they both do.
It's a very arrogant and narcissistic view.

Yeah, you're right. The extreme left is just as bought into their alternate reality, filled with "glorious revolutions" and how their brand of socialism is going to be SO MUCH BETTER than all the attempts that came before and it won't fail in the same exact easily foreseeable way! And you're a filthy capitalist butcher who is no better than a Republican if you so much as challenge my world view!

Difference is, that clown doesn't control the Democratic Party (maybe they will in the future, but that's a problem for another time). The extremists do control the Republican Party, however. They are the near and present danger.

Both-siderism isn't a virtue. It's an excuse to try and deflect. The only arrogance here is YOURS.

Football is a team sport. Can't blame 1 player for all failures if team.

                              All Trump's fault.
                              It's all too funny.
All the hate for 1 person who didn't create the system.

You are such a deflecting piece of shit.

I have never blamed Trump alone for the issues of the GOP. He's a symptom, not the disease.

But go ahead and keep deflecting. ANYTHING to avoid reckoning with the bullshit you've been fed. Keep telling yourself it's tasty!
