Amen was seen as the more skilled/higher upside offensive player heading into the draft. They may both shoot for shit from 3, but Amen is shooting over 70% from the line and can just do stuff that Ausar can’t right now offensively. Obviously, missing so much time has impacted Ausar’s development schedule, and he’s shown that he’s a smart connective passer. So there’s potential there for sure. Let’s see what he looks like after a full offseason and training camp next year.

      • On one hand, I'm kinda surprised Detroit hasn't had a hand in any moves so far.

On the other, I'm not at all upset they haven't been. This year really should be a season to see how this particular core can gel.

        • The Pistons have reportedly agreed to trade with the Pelicans to help them get under the luxury tax if no other trades for the Pelicans happen by the deadline. That would probably be minor I would think. Allegedly Langdon wants a 1st round pick to help facilitate any trade which might be a steep price.

The big fish left are Butler, Ingram and I guess Vucevic. If Butler does get traded, Detroit is most likely going to be involved

This makes the most sense to me -- Possibly combined with a GM in Nico who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. Nico has made a series of moves that people have questioned, but they've worked out largely because Doncic has made them work.

            • Harrison also probably way overvalues AD. I probably underrate him, but they apparently think they can win a championship with him. If you are going to trade Doncic and get an All NBA guy in return, he is the only guy. But it doesn't excuse not extracting more with at least the second 1st rounder.

It's crazy how pissed the league is at the Mavs.

              • Max Christie is an underrated part of this deal. He's gonna be really good.

                • I didn't realize Nico Harrison was the bonehead who screwed up the Nike contract with Steph Curry. The famous story is in the presentation he called him Seth and he used the wrong presentation. Steph left Nike for UA.

Also, if you ever listen to the Bill Simmons podcast Haralabob is a gambler who's initial claim to fame is he called the Pistons killing the Lakers in the 2004 finals. He later went to work for the Mavericks doing analytics. There is a nugget about the Pistons.

froot: why do you thiink the Pistons were not the facilitating team for the Doncic trade? Utah made out like a bandit. Why not Detroit?

                    • I’m really hoping that the Pistons can come away from the deadline with another ball handler. A guy like Lonzo Ball would help take a lot of pressure off Cade.

                        .
Utah didn't even know it was helping facilitating that trade. They were contacted 30 minutes before the trade was announced and didn't know who the main players changing teams were

Nobody in the Dallas front office other than Nico Harrison was aware of the trade and only a few people in LA were aware of it. No other front office was contacted

                          • A better PG than Sasser at least. Wouldn't hate it.

                            • Better defensively, but still not a ball handler, getting paid more and is a RFA.

                              • He's a better ball handler than Sasser and salary isn't an issue. He'd be a rental. Would find it hard to believe that's the only option out there, but it's better than what we have.
