    • Nothing will ever beat Busey's performance in Predator 2. Fuck anyone who disagrees.

        EYE OF THE TIGER (1986)
        d. Richard Sarafian
Starring: Gary Busey, William Smith, Yaphet Kotto, Seymour Cassel, Denise Galik

After being released from prison (I think it's mentioned at some point that he was framed or something), Buck Matthews returns to his home town to find it's been taken over by a drug-smuggling biker gang led by William Smith. Local Sheriff Seymour Cassel, who sent Buck to prison, is clearly on the take and warns Buck to keep his nose out of things. But one night when a group of bikers attempts to rape a nurse, Buck rescues her and becomes a local hero, earning the wrath of Biker chief Smith.

They show up at his house and drive through his windows and walls. He ends up beaten, his wife ends up dead, and his daughter lies in a hospital bed comatose from shock. The bikers show up to he funeral and terrorize the mourners. And later (in a pretty crazy scene) the bikers dig up his wife's coffin and drag it behind their bikes all around town before leaving it at his doorstep. It's payback time, motherfuckers.

He calls in a favor from a vaguely Hispanic druglord whose life he saved in prison and gets a suped-up F150 in exchange. Yaphet Kotto is one of the Sheriff's deputies but also a 'Nam buddy and he eventually says 'fuck it' and helps out by dropping grenades from a biplane. The Sheriff and the bikers gets what's coming to them but it's kind of, meh, mediocre action overall. A pretty good revenge setup fizzles out over time.

As for the title? I think they just wanted to use the song. That's it.

I saw this movie on some late night channel not too long ago. Man, what a train wreck.

And...Why is it that all of these terrifying biker gangs in these shitty movies ride around on dirt bikes?

I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

            BANK SHOT (1974)
            d. Gower Champion
Starring: George C. Scott, Joanna Cassidy, Sorrell Booke, Clifton James, Frank McRae, Bob Balaban

Master bank robber Walter Ballantine (George C. Scott) is broken out of prison to lead a new heist of an entire bank that's conveiently in a modular home or something. There are wacky 70's hijinks.

I basically hated this movie. I was going to say it's one of the worst things I've watched, but in all honesty it's at least competently made. But it's a horribly unfunny wacky heist movie with George C. Scott playing the straight man (except for his bizarre enormous eyebrows) and his entire crew mugging it the fuck up. Clifton James, who played the horrific Sheriff J. W. Pepper in two James Bond movies, also plays the lawman after Ballantine here. Thank God he's nowhere near as grating a character. Boss Hogg is here along with a his ex-FBI nephew or something. Joanna Cassidy plays some millionaire bimbo with no backstory who is financing the caper on a lark. The trailer below stars her above all for some reason. They probably didn't know how to sell this turkey.

Jack Davis did the poster art though, one of my favorite old school Mad Magazine artists.

            • Love the new series “Old Man” on FX. Lithgow and Jeff Bridges. 2 shows in and it’s well done.

Basically, Bridges was an operative and assumed a life to be with a woman he fell in love with. They had a daughter who he stays in contact with by phone. He lived the assumed life for 30-odd years until his wife died of Huntington’s Disease and for whatever reason the decision was made to bring him in. His old sector chief (Lithgow) was called out of retirement to run the Op.

Think an aged Jack Reacher kinda vibe.

                    • One of my favorite James Caan roles was when he played "Mississippi" in Eldorado with John Wayne.

He played a crooked CIA agent in "Eraser" with Arnold Swartzenegger. That was a good one too.

One of my wife's favorite shows years ago was "Las Vegas" back in the late 90's(?). He played a casino manager with a CIA background, and was sort of a mystery man. Tough guy. Played alongside Josh Duhamel. We had to watch that every week. (ok, I admit I liked it too)

                          SUMMER SCHOOL (1987)
                          d. Carl Reiner
Starring: Mark Harmon, Kirstie Alley, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Dean Cameron, Robin Thomas, Gary Riley, Fabiana Udenio, Shawnee Smith

On the last day before summer vacation, gym teacher Mark Harmon gets blackmailed into teaching summer school for remedial English students, sacrificing his Hawaii vacation and girlfriend in the process. Wacky hijinks ensue as the kids he's teaching are quite the colorful misfits.

This is an alright, fairly tame 80's comedy (but for one scene involving lots of solid practical gore effects). The kids are fairly well developed for what you might expect in such a thing. There's a couple stoner movie freaks, a geeky nerd, a pregnant girl, a kid who always sleeps through class, a jock, a surfer girl, the foreign exchange student, etc. etc. The class clown movie stoners get more screen time than anyone so a lot of how funny you find this all will depend on how much you like them. Unfortunately, they're the most dated aspect of the film. Everyone else is pretty good.

At risk of sounding lecherous, the attractive woman quotient is quite high in this one. Kirstie Alley and Courtney Thorne-Smith are both around their peak in attractiveness. Fabiana Udenio is not a household name but is best known as playing "Alotta Fagina" in Austin Powers. And Shawnee Smith is a pretty lady and this was one of her first films.

                              • The traits of Harmon in Summer School are similar to his portrayal of Gibbs in NCIS, but they are completely opposite characters. I really like the scene where he shows up for class in a suit for the first time and the students act differently.

This movie was constantly being shown on cable. I've seen it so many times and I couldn't tell you the plot.
