They're an incredibly dumb policy choice, let alone hill to die on.

I mean, if you REALLY want to talk about evil shit, there you go.

However, I guess I shouldn't talk -- we have CONCENTRATION CAMPS!!!! according to the Ds.

            • Prepare for a "fake news" tweet. Two of Trump's favorite murderous regimes get called out.

A United Nations investigative report issued Wednesday into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi blames high-level Saudi officials, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

                    • As a policy choice, Tariffs were the one certain thing that he was going to do. If you voted for him, you were voting for tariffs. He thinks they are some kind of magic bullet.

The Front Row Joe phenomenon has been reported on in a few places, it seems like there is more than a handful but the number isn't important. Its more weird than anything. He gets a lot of people to come to rallies to hear the same list of grievances and most of the people going to the rallies he wouldn't give the time of day to in the real world. Its like the Pied Piper come to life. I've safely made it through middle age without ever going to a political rally I don't plan on deviating from that. Who in the world waits in line for those rallies let alone drive out of state? Obama would draw big crowds but nobody was driving across the country to hear him speak at a normal rally.

                      • I've answered a couple polls but I generally do not answer them, they don't come up as Unknown Caller, they will have some polling name on it. I expect this upcoming election will be polled a lot in my area.

The hit rate for phone polls is very low. When the NY times were doing their live polls during the 2018 election, they were blazing through 20 thousand calls to scrounge up 600 respondents. As long as you are hitting the demographic target it works but the MOE is going to be big the smaller the number of respondents.

I don't if they are dumb. I don't like them or agree with them and they hurt me personally, but I think that there is a rationale to them. Namely that there needs to be some sort of path to affluence for people who don't want to go into indentured servitude to go through college. Manufacturing has, historically, been that route and it has been in decline for some time now.

Golly I have great fun with polls. ALWAYS ALWAYS lie to pollsters. Typically I report I am a very religious uber conservative, giving all repub candidates the highest rating possible except for Dear Leader who gets the worst possible rating. Don't care for the robo-polls, but the live ones are fun.

A couple of months back, I participated in a live poll inquiring about social issues. I actually gave honest answers (wasn't an overt political poll). That poll was incredibly long, probably 10 minutes in length. I asked the lady conducting the survey what her completion rate was. Including hang-ups, she stated about half the people finished the survey.
