  • In a continuation to overturn anything Obama, has decided that farmers that rely on insect pollination don't matter.

The US Department of Agriculture has suspended data collection for its annual Honey Bee Colonies report, citing cost cuts -- a move that robs researchers and the honeybee industry of a critical tool for understandinghoneybee population declines. Last year, the Trump administration reversed an Obama-era rule barring the use of neonicotinoids, a chemical family that is one of the major culprits in colony collapse disorder, in wildlife refuges. And the Environmental Protection Agency has granted "emergency" permissions to 18 states to spray an insecticide that's considered "highly toxic" to bees. Two other surveys have been suspended or scaled back in the last year. The Cost of Pollination survey, which tracked how farmers pay for honeybees to pollinate their crops, was suspended in 2018, and the Honey survey -- which gathers information on honey production -- has been scaled back to cut data collection on beekeeping operations that have less than five colonies.

    • With regard to the Census case, the DOJ attempted to put a hold on discovery while they develop a "new" rationale, but the Judge shot them down yesterday. Allows the ACLU and the other groups to get information and testimony from the Commerce Dept. while DOJ flails around.

Meanwhile in SDNY the Plaintiff has filed to Enjoin the government from pursuing the citizenship question any further. As this brief notes, the DOJ has said repeatedly that June 30, 2019 was the drop-dead date for adding the question to the census. The govt used that date to successfully expedite the case through multiple court levels. The Plaintiffs, in fact, were forced to forgeo Discovery to some degree so that the DOJ could push the case through faster.

Could get a ruling on this motion within weeks.

          • Hoo boy...someone leaked cables between the British Ambassador to the US (Sir Kim Darroch) and London. He says Trump is "Uniquely incompetent", "radiates insecurity", and only understands simple, blunt points.

            *********************************

In one of the most sensitive documents, Sir Kim writes: 'We don't really believe this Administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.'

He also says that he doesn't think Trump's White House will 'ever look competent'.

                  • Miami Herald says they've been told the indictment involves new victims and witnesses. It'll be unsealed when Epstein shows up for a bail hearing. If he's granted bail, btw, he will almost certainly disappear.

                      • Hard to know exactly who he's talking about here, but it's the start of a three part rant against Fox's weekend programming. He feels it's insufficiently pro-Trump.

                        • DOJ is replacing everyone that was working on the Census case. No explanation given.

Speculation is that political appointees could be taking over: people who have no long-term career plans at the DOJ.

This is the equivalent of reporting that water is wet, but it is interesting coming from diplomatic cables. Donald Trump is a total incompetent who oozes insecurity. It nails the criticism of Trump's dumbass Iran policy. There is no coherence of any of his policies and the logical outcome of that is for any of the regimes at odds with him is to wait him out.

                            • Any word on how many were killed at Tiananmen Part Duex? Strong strategery by PDJT as he's bumped up to his highest RCP numbers in, like, forever.

In other news, it appears the Ds have finally acknowledge a border crisis after months of denial, but their only solution is to let them all in. I mean, we can't keep them in Concentration Camps drinking toilet water and certainly can't send them back to Mexico -- quite the shithole. So the only answer has to be to cut them free.

Meanwhile, Uncle Joe seems to finally have wised up a bit. He's never going to win pandering to unthinkably stupid left. He needs to run center. So, he's off saying he won't take away private insurance (unlike every other fucking D of significance). He's also trying to aim considerably more sensible on immigration. Of course, that's a relative measure and when your peers are open borders/welfare state stupid then it's easy to appear sensible.

                              • That's fair concerning the state of Dem affairs. Sensibility, however, is not a trump card (pun intended). There were sensible GOP candidates in 2016 but the biggest kook of them all wound up with the nomination (and Oval Office). It appears in this day and age that rationality no longer rules. Klobuchar and Bennett are the most moderate ones in the Dem field and they aren't even on the radar. Some of that blame falls onto the press as they want news with buzz not boring but valuable coverage. It's becoming more and more apparent that the primaries are the most important of elections since in national elections the tribal sheeple on either side will vote blindly. What a circus the dems are putting forth. Christ, Wiz could/would/should finish in the top three against that field.
