        • Welp, not unexpectedly, the FDA approved "forced injections" of the Pfizer COVID Vaccine for 11-15 yo kids today. I jest at Kapture's expense. I found this interesting in the AP article I read on this:

................a recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey suggests most parents won’t rush to get the shots. About 25% of parents polled earlier this month said they would get their children vaccinated “right away.” But the remaining majority of parents were roughly split between those who said they will to wait to see how the vaccine performs and those who said they “definitely” won’t have their children vaccinated.

Like I've supported those here who don't want the shot believing this is a personal choice, I support parental choice in this matter as well. I've also noted there are risks and consequences associated with a decision to not get vaccinated. Those risks and consequence flow to my space so there is that. But so be it. That's the way it should be. Moreover, people who have been vaccinated should understand the risks for breakthrough infections and take their own personal steps to accommodate them or avoid them altogether.

I don't think the data is robust enough yet to determine if the COVID vaccine should be added to the CDC list of recommended childhood vaccines. Also, bad messaging if they do. My gut tells me, and Kapture will agree, risk stratification by age demonstrates healthy kids under somewhere at a break point of 16 years old, have a very low risk for illness that might require hospitalization. There are exceptions for the medicall vulnerable in that age group.

OTH, when one views this as an epidemiologist might, the risk of creating local COVID epidemics among kids and all that entails is comparable to every other disease for which the CDC has recommended a childhood vaccine. Like I've said, this ain't an argument that has a slam dunk best course of action. It's nuanced and It's way early in the game. IMO, vaccination activists running around all hot and bothered by those that choose not to get the shot, including kids, in the case of COVID, they're annoying.

You can read the whole article here. IMO, it doesn't give enough weight to the points I'm down with and wrote about above. It's all about the shots.... the shots, no treble .....

The Food and Drug Administration has paved the way for children ages 5 to 11 to get Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. The agency authorized the kid-size doses on Friday.

          • In other evening COVID news....... it aint over and while we're enjoying a respite in the US (most of North America to include Mexico and the Caribbean) and a sort-of return to normal shit like kids having a good time this weekend dressing up and going trick-or-treating, Russia suffered it's worst monthly death count since WWII, close to 43K dead in just the month of September. Of course it's due to COVID and these are excess to the normal monthly death rate from other causes. I really don't care to question the numbers, methods of reporting all of that. Even if they are off, this is a call to remain vigilant as the appearance that the COVID pandemic is coming to a close.

            • And now for something really important.....

A day before Game 3 of the World Series, the animal rights organization released a statement saying the term "bullpen" is insensitive to cows and bulls. The suggestion drew mixed reactions.

              • TBC, I have NEVER associated a major league "bullpen" with hanging a bull or cow upside down an slitting it's throat.

I have vivid memories of reading Upton Sinclair's The Jungle. I grew up on the North Shore, isolated from downtown Chicago and the surrounds. I was stunned by this recounting by Sinclair, an avowed socialist and muckraker, of the kind of poverty and abuse of immigrants that SInclair wrote about. Of course he had a socialist agenda. I had no clue at the time. I was in 7th grade. It left an impact though and probably had something to do with informing my social conscience, outside of the strict conservatism that my father exhibited, that persists today.

Anyway, PETA has carried on a whacko campaign for animal rights that usually has no basis in reasonableness. It continues.

                    • After Michigan legalized marijuana for recreational use via citizen initiative in 2018, Republicans passed a law intending to restrict the ability of petitions to make it onto the election ballot. If a certain number of signatures are collected, the issue gets put on the ballot. The new 2018 law said that no more than 15% of the total signatures can come from any single congressional district, a clear attempt to hamper the abilities of voters in SE Michigan to ever get initiaitives on the ballot.

State courts ruled this law unconstitutional today.

A panel of Michigan appellate judges on Friday struck down two of three parts to a ballot initiative law signed into law during the lame-duck session by former Gov. Rick Snyder.

This is all completely unrelated to the charges he's facing for taking part in Jan. 6, when he live-streamed himself ransacking offices in the Capitol.

The disgraced Lincoln Project has admitted it was behind a stunt aimed at falsely linking Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin to racists at one of his campaign stops on Friday.

A reporter for NBC 29 tweeted a picture Friday morning showing five people dressed in white shirts and khakis while holding tiki torches, standing in front of Youngkin’s campaign bus. The group’s outfits were similar to those worn by some attendees of the 2018 “United the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va., where multiple white supremacist groups protested and one person was killed.

VIRGINIA GOVERNOR’S RACE NOW HINGES ON EDUCATION, AND ONE CANDIDATE HAS A CLEAR EDGE: POLL
The Youngkin campaign was quick to call out the purported “Unite the Right” group as imposters, and rumors swirled all day on social media about who might have been behind planting the individuals at the event.

Youngkin’s campaign accused Democratic rival Terry McAuliffe’s campaign of being behind the “Unite the Right” posers, which the McAuliffe camp denied. In the afternoon, the Lincoln Project – a group of former Republicans who left the party over their hatred for former President Donald Trump – took credit for the stunt and explained their reasoning behind it.

“Today’s demonstration was our way of reminding Virginians what happened in Charlottesville four years ago, the Republican Party’s embrace of those values, and Glenn Youngkin’s failure to condemn it,” the Lincoln Project said in a press release.

“The Lincoln Project has run advertisements highlighting the hate unleashed in Charlottesville as well as Glenn Youngkin’s continued failure to denounce Donald Trump’s ‘very fine people on both sides,'” the group said. “We will continue to draw this contrast in broadcast videos, on our social media platforms, and at Youngkin rallies.”

The McAuliffe campaign issued a statement saying, “What happened today in Charlottesville is disgusting and distasteful and the McAuliffe campaign condemns it in the strongest terms. Those involved should immediately apologize.”

Donald Trump Jr. is among those voicing suspicion that the Lincoln Project’s confession is false.

The Virginia governor’s race is still a toss-up, with the latest Washington Post-Schar School poll showing McAuliffe just one point ahead of Youngkin with likely voters, 49% to 48%.

McAuliffe had led in every poll up until a few weeks ago, when some polls started rolling in showing Youngkin as the favorite. That was after McAuliffe declared, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they need to teach.”

The Washington Post-Schar School poll released Friday also shows education has jumped to the top issue for voters in the commonwealth of Virginia, and education voters favor Youngkin by 9%.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 2.

As Mike Pence hid in the Capitol from the rioters, Eastman sent an email to the VP's lawyer blaming Pence for the riot because he "did not do what was necessary". He continued to badger and pressure Pence's people after the riot was over, demanding that Pence somehow block certification of the election.
