I hypothesize that Biden sold out to the Left to gain their support for the general and avoid the Hilary/Bernie conundrum of 2016 but somewhere along the line he actually started to believe in their platform. He was a lot of things as a Senator but a far left wacko wasn't one of them.

A lot of people think it has to do with transportation needs of the 1820’s or whatever. Small counties, so you could easily ride your horse to the county seat and back. Actually, it’s the fact that Georgia used the county unit system back then:

The way it worked was candidates in Georgia won not by number of votes, but by number of counties they carried.

“There was a saying back in the old days in the County Unit System that pine trees counted more than people when it came to electing a governor,” said Tom Crawford, a longtime political journalist and editor of the Georgia Report.

That’s because counties had a set amount of votes, almost regardless of population. And that meant more counties equaled more power.
