  • That's a lot of pizzas to deliver. I wouldn't have gone 20%, not even 10%, but I'd have given him at least $50.

Hell, he just spent over $1400 on pizza, what's another 50 bucks?

I think it is hard to set a percentage on delivery like you do on table service. I kind of give it the feel test. I think 5 bucks is a good tip on $20 of pizza, and I guess I would tip about the same on $40 worth even though it cuts the tip in half based on purchase price, but I have tipped more on both $$ amounts.

    • He was reasonably expecting more than 10 dollars. Deliveries that big are a pain in the ass to deliver. Generally if its that big you need more than one driver.

20 pizzas is one trip from the car using 2 "coffin" bags. Probably run you about $150-200 depending on the pizzas. You order one or two pizzas I hand you your order at your door. 20 I'm coming in, unloading them usually in a space that isn't prepared four me to unload them, plus I separate the order out by toppings to make it easier on you.

$1400 is about 100-200 pizzas, multiple trips to and from the car and probably an extra driver. A $10 tip might as well be a stiff on an order that big. At least then I figure you're just an ignorant fool and not a cheapskate.

We're great tippers at places that deserve tips. 20+% is the norm

Just don't find it necessary to make a pizza delivery guy comfortable for his 5 minutes worth of work getting to my house a 1/4 mile away while being hit with a 25% surcharge for the honor of doing biz with the pizza co.

                          Agreed.

Could it be possible they ment to tip $100.00?

Nope, they filled out the total and that really is cheap assed for the amount of pizza that was delivered.

This brings a whole new dynamic into the conversation.

If the Company automatically adds a premium for delivery that size, (or in the case of the $1400.00 order, an automatic tip, which many sit down restaurants will do with big parties) then, it is up to the Company to properly compensate the delivery person.

My point is if there is a surcharge of 25% for a small order, no tip is in order because the Company has decided how to handle tips to drivers.

This includes larger orders which Companies will usually impose.

                          • The delivery charge does not go to the delivery guy.

                            Bottom line?

                            Tip the fucking pizza guy.

                            • I'm trying to understand this myself. Panoptes says he tips, and sometimes up to 25%....., but if he tipped the $1400 pizza delivery guy 25%, that's $350?? Even you 10% tippers..... That's $140?? Who the fk does that? And how do you settle on a tip % for pizza delivery over a grand?

Bottom line for me is you'll have a fucking MASSIVE bottom line if you keep eating that much pizza.

                              • Delivery isn't by percentage in my book. I just tip $3 and change. Up to $5 if it's just a lot easier with the change back situation.

Obviously if you ordered a catering job you would go up to $10 or even $20.

Edit. But that would be per person, so if your order was so big that you have like 5 guys all working your delivery you could get up there.
