So all those come from behind victories last year, Mediocre Matty wasn’t a difference maker in those wins.

You’re going to be sorely disappointed when they lose to all winning teams next year.

      • Andy Dalton has been terrible in his 4 playoff losses. Just really bad, not one of those games was he average.

But that's not the question, and it never has been.
It always is the mantra on this forum. The ole excuses start rolling on in this time of year.

          • Maybe you should seek out another Lion forum that doesn't have excuses to suit your tastes.

            • Then what would you group of 5 do?

Talk about the draft prospects every year and get excited over the upgrades coming every year, which never do, til the team gets perfect?

Go back in all the draft threads and find out how many current Lions were when drafted, upgrades over the, then current player.

              Knock yourself out.

we all need each other to take away the frustrations until the winning happens, if it ever does.

The rest of the team let him down.

It's like clockwork - every draft the Lions pick players make the people on this forum scratch their heads wondering what the hell were they thinking. But before the draft is over, they convince themselves the Lions picked the guys that are going to put them over the edge.

But, the reality of the draft, across the board is that less than 3% of all players drafted ever make a difference in the NFL. Less than half ever play in the NFL. Most of the rest are either special team fodder or just occupy a space and do nothing remarkable. The Washington Post published a study analyzing 20 drafts, two years ago - that was the conclusion.

I knew it was low but 3% and less than half see the field? Are you sure about those numbers?

Take a look at what wins football games. Having an elite player at any position will make a big difference. That is obvious and QB is no exception.

Look at the top 4 teams this year. Philly - Minnesota - NE - Jacksonville

What do they all have in common? Do they all have elite QBs? Many don't consider Keenum, Foles, and Bortles to be possible GOATS. Nope that isnt it then.

They all have elite defensive units. 3/4 have very strong running games. They all have at least decent QBs. Look deeper into a lot of successful NFL franchises. Denver when they were elite with Manning - Look at that defense. When they won the SB Manning was garbage that year. Look at Pittsburgh. Big Ben is not any better than Stafford but he has an elite defense most years and Leveon Bell. Seattle won on the backs of that defense. Carolina recently - DEFENSE. Ravens won a ring. Was it because of Flacco or that monster defense? Cardinals? The D. Rams went from a shit show to a decent team this year because of what? Its not because Goff is the GOAT. Were the Bucs dominant under Gruden because of Brad Johnson? Nope. Stop being retarded. Its ok to be wrong.

Im confused by the nearly QUARTER BILLION DOLLARS the QB is being paid as though he is the best QB in all the land but continues to play like the middling QB he is.

He's getting paid because QB's get paid like that. Whether it is right or wrong it is the trend in the NFL. If it is any consolation he will drop down the top paid QB lists every year because every year someone will get paid. Stafford set the new standard but within 4 years contracts will be $400 million +.

                            • What does these playoffs say?

That there are plenty of ways to field a team that can win in the playoffs. If you get lucky and find that generational QB, great. But if you don't, you don't have to keep playing that lottery if you have one that's good enough.

That's never really been up for debate. The question really amounts to is Matt Stafford good enough? The Hater's Club wants to claim "no," which is absolutely preposterous when you consider who is behind center for a lot of playoff teams.

This is the real Mic dropper. Would it have been great if Stafford was the next Brady or Manning? Sure would have been. The fact that he isn't doesn't mean burn the team down. Just means that you that the supporting cast needs to be a bit better.

It preposterous to suggest that Stafford is the reason they haven't won a playoff games when there are dozens of QBs in the last 10 years that have won a playoff game that aren't good enough to even be a starter in the league.
