  • Absolutely incredible. Eight years knowing that your defensive coordinator has set up a charitable foundation for his own sexual gratification. The most incredible thing is that not only did JoePa know, he did nothing about it and the PSU's president's public comment that he stands 100% behind his athletic director makes Gee's support of Gene Smith look like more than reasonable.

These situations are not analagous and should not be compared. Doing so gives both of these inferior-to-Michigan programs more perceived legitimacy than they deserve. It trivializes what Sandusky did if they are processed through the same filter, and makes OSU look good in comparison.

I hope your wife does as much PR for Michigan as you do for her Tide.

      • I think that the crimson tide of anybody's wife is not an appropriate discussion topic here. (Unless an appropriate thread is created, we debate whether it should be sticky, and then close it)

Lots of stadiums do this to help pay for sports... Sadly, so does UNL

          • One of the great things about UM and ND (although ND does allow an NBC banner to hang from its scoreboard) --no advertising in the stadium. A class act doesn't need shilling for corporate america as a means of making money or paying for sports. UM runs a surplus almost every year.

            • Helped in part by allowing Nike or Addidas to make monkey suits for the players...

Frankly if it's a choice of poisons to pick I'd do it the way Michigan is doing it. I absolutely love the aesthetics at game time, even if sometimes the uniforms are silly.

yeah well you can thank David "our pizza tastes like shit" Brandon for that.

                • A good part of Bacon's book was a reminder that Martin, for as much as he screwed up the on-the-field product, did make the athletic department financially healthy. (Sorry to let in the nuance, and I hope it doesn't cause you to think things over any)

Sure but as you can imagine its been a lot more fun rooting for Bama than UM for the past couple of years.

                      • If you've internalized what it's all about in Ann Arbor than rooting for that program or one of its ilk down there wouldn't be an option. I would NEVER.

                          • That does not rule out a campaign of influence. My wife used to think Flip Saunders was a dapper gentleman, but now she perceives him as merely one of billons of others who also have vaginas.

Gameday in Tuscaloosa is a wonderful experience, pulling for that program is something to be proud of, I couldn't ask for a better 1B.

Martin saved the athletic department after Tom Goss almost ran it completely into the ground in the few years that he was in charge. What a f'ing idiot.

Martin did a horrible job with the coaching search, but as a CFO he was a lifesaver.
