  • Richt is a mediocre coach who hires and retains lots of poor assistants. He's basically Georgia's LLLoyd. I would be fine with him at Maryland.

    • Yeah, Richt isn't a game changer at Maryland.

If he brought Maryland up to anywhere near where UGA has been it would be huge for them, perennial 10 win teams. Big resources, talent rich state (somewhat)

        • If Ole Miss had managed to stop Arky's 4th and 20 lateral, fumble, lateral shitshow, Ole Miss would be playing in the SEC CG and Bama would, presumably, be out of the CFP.

If M had managed to get off a clean punt or, at the least, not give up a TD on its own punt on the final play of the game, then OSU would playing Iowa with the winner a lock to be in the CFP.

Such is the line between IN and OUT when it comes to the CFP.

          • Richt has a winning % of .745. Best in Georgia history.

He isn't elite, but certainly not mediocre. "Good" might be the best word to label him.
Richt is basically Les Miles without a National Championship.

            • Meh. The SEC East has been terrible outside of the Urban Meyer years for most of the past decade. It has been a long time since Georgia was truly competitive nationally. The "up" programs have mostly kicked his ass.

              • Yeah, his inability to dominate an awful East is telling.

                • The point about Richt hiring and keeping bad assistants is spot on. That was the bitch from the big money that pushed him out.

He comes from the old school of nepotism and loyalty to a fault among college coaches. He's a good coach and if he hires the right assistants, he'll do well. Probably a good fit at Maryland.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

I'd say if he brought them up to 8 wins a season that would be huge

                      • That's a good fit. OP is nearby and can provide fellating opportunities.

I meant to say his teams were perennial 10 game winners at UGA.

                          • I think that Richt is a bad fit for Maryland. He is a guy who wins with brute force talent and execution. That is why he has very few signature victories since Nick Saban and Urban Meyer showed up. He will never be better than fourth best in the division talent-wise. Maryland needs an offensive "system" guy like Mike Leach, Cliff Kingsbury, Ken Niumatulolo, etc etc and gimmick their way to 8-9 wins a year. JMO.

                            • 9 10-win seasons and 7 top 10 finishes in 15 years. 83-37 overall SEC record.
                              Richt was good.

South Carolina coached by Spurrier, Tennessee coached by Fulmer (in Richt's early years), Urban Meyer for 6 seasons, and even a good Missouri for a few seasons... Isn't like the SEC East is the terrible B10 West.
Georgia had to play a few games against the SEC West every year too.

                              Richt was "good" at Georgia.

                              • Georgia is the type of program where you have to be REALLY bad to not have moderate success ala RR and Hoke at Michigan.
