Chinese missed a real opportunity. They could have built one of those empty cities on the location where most of Detroit was, and probably gotten some people to live in it. Communist government already in place.

They're trying to build a city government, but due to the absolute stupidity of Detroit voters for so many decades, they're lagging behind most western democracies.

Give them another decade, .. unless Kwame gets out of prison and is re-elected.

Detroit is long past the point of being a lost cause. At some point a city becomes so awful that the only people left living there are the ones too inept to move. At that point the populace is incapable of making good voting decisions no matter how bad things become. The city is a miniature third world Banana Republic existing within the US.

Detroit has actually gotten better in the last few years. Its up to second world with a couple of large 3rd world sections. You want a real shit hole? Flint. Pack heat at all times and travel in groups. And only during daylight. Many areas could be used to film the next Mad Max movie. I believe that Flint is the most violent city in America, relegating Detroit to a distant third.

Honestly the New Berlin model is attainable. Detroit is a low-cost destination for artists and others who value large, old structures they can live in and/or convert to work spaces, etc. In the creative/artisanal economy, Detroit has for several years been punching far above its weight.
