I'll put it this way.. as an opposing fan, KState felt more imposing.

now, that said... one of the best tailgating is the golf course outside the stadium. lots of fun and blast meeting people. I've never done the riverboats outside of Tennessee or the boats outside of Washington, but outside the alamo bowl, the golf course is the best I've attended.

For me, the best part of the Game Day experience these days is meeting up, pre or post game with great CFB fans, whoever they are.

I'm a student of the game, so I like going onto a game knowing what to look for. I didn't do that as a student. I went there to party. But I do now although, lately, I'll admit, I like the tail gating more than the game because M football sucks right now.

ADs need to learn how to tap into the interests of a diverse CFB fandome. It's probably not easy but I feel like Brandon is squandering an opportunity to build long term fans in an effort to optimize short term monetary gains.

Somebody with a clue needs to refocus his efforts. Is that going to happen? No and that's my fear.

Brian's made the point about Brandon that handing out pom poms is a visual spectacle but puts things in people's hands that prevent them from clapping or whistling.

This. Especially for road games. Though, I still really like the Ohio Stadium experience, at least for a "big" game.

I have to agree as well. The tailgate experience and meeting with good friends is a huge part of game day. When the team sucks, its about the only enjoyable experience of the day.

Sorry, no. the SEC does not have the greatest college basketball coaches. It is not even in the top tier of college basketball conferences. BUT I bet after ESPN repeating it over and over again for a few years everyone will think so.

Indiana Voted Big Ten Baseball Preseason Favorite

Hoosiers are coaches' unanimous pick to claim the conference title

Rosemont, Ill. – Indiana was the unanimous choice by the conference coaches as the preseason favorite to claim the Big Ten Championship, it was announced on Wednesday. The conference’s coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three players from their own squads to a Players to Watch list. The Hoosiers were followed in the preseason poll by No. 2 Nebraska, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan State, with Illinois and Michigan tied for fifth.

The Hoosiers return seven of their nine All-Big Ten honorees from last year’s College World Series squad, including third baseman Dustin DeMuth, catcher Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Sam Travis, who were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The trio each earned Preseason All-America accolades from various outlets, with Schwarber being a unanimous pick from Baseball America, College Baseball Newspaper and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Nebraska was picked to finish second after advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game last season. Starting pitcher Aaron Bummer, second baseman Pat Kelly and outfielder/designated hitter Michael Pritchard were named Big Ten Players to Watch. Kelly was a 2013 All-Big Ten first-team pick and Pritchard was a second-team choice.

Ohio State welcomes back 13 letterwinners from last season, while also getting back Big Ten Player to Watch choice Josh Dezse, who missed last season due to injury. Other Players to Watch for the Buckeyes include Preseason All-America reliever Trace Dempsey, who was named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, and outfielder Patrick Porter.

Michigan State is coming off its fourth straight 30-win season after earning 33 victories last season. Outfielder Jimmy Pickens, who was a second-team All-Conference choice a year ago, outfielder Cam Gibson, who earned a spot on the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team, and pitcher Justin Alleman were tabbed Big Ten Players to Watch.

Illinois advanced to NCAA Tournament play a season ago, finishing the year with 35 victories. Starting pitcher Kevin Duchene, a 2013 All-Conference second-team pick, and reliever Ronnie Muck are two of the Illini’s 15 returning pitchers, while first baseman David Kerian was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2013. The three were named Players to Watch.

Michigan was part of the Big Ten Tournament field in 2013 and returns six of its eight position players from last year’s team. Each of the Wolverines three Big Ten Players to Watch this season, infielder/reliever Jacob Cronenworth, starting pitcher Evan Hill and shortstop Travis Maezes, were named to the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team a season ago.

Sounds like both Friday night games and night games in November are both on the table... Delaney trying to get as much exposure & time slots as possible to net the largest payday come time to negotiate the B10 upcoming media deal that expires...

Friday night obviously conflicts with HS football, Friday classes plus it hurts the ability to host recruits. Previously there were a good bit of NCAA teams playing on Thursday's but the NFL took over that night and I don't think most conferences will try to compete with the NFL.

Rutgers AD bashes newspaper

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann told a class earlier this year that it would be "great" if New Jersey's largest newspaper went out of business.

Shortly after being introduced as Rutgers' athletic director, Julie Hermann was facing abuse allegations from her former volleyball players at Tennessee.

The university said in a statement Monday that Hermann's remarks to a media ethics and law class in February came before she knew about deep layoffs at The Star-Ledger. The newspaper's parent company, Advance Publications, announced a reorganization last week that will result in layoffs for about 300 employees at its website and newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including about 170 at the Newark paper.

The Star-Ledger reported on her remarks Monday, citing a recording provided by a student.
"If they're not writing headlines that are getting our attention, they're not selling ads -- and they die," Hermann said. "And the Ledger almost died in June, right?"
A student responded: "They might die again next month."
"That would be great," Hermann said. "I'm going to do all I can to not give them a headline to keep them alive."
Hermann also said one person at the newspaper has "one mission, that's to get any AD at Rutgers fired."
In a statement, Rutgers said Hermann's statements were "intended to give the students some understanding of the challenges she has faced" and were not expected to be made public. Hermann did not apologize.

The Newark newspaper was the first to report in May that Hermann was accused of being verbally and emotionally abusive to volleyball players she coached at Tennessee in 1996.

At Rutgers, she replaced Tim Pernetti, who was forced to resign because of his handling of men's basketball coach Mike Rice's situation at the school. Rice was fired a year ago after it came to light that he had verbally and physically abused players.
