  • Experience and work ethic are huge factors. A lot of times its more important than athletic ability.
Yea that's working really well with John O'korn.

Comparing Speight to Cook is ridiculous!

    • KStat,

Speight did NOT play vs Indiana yet you claim he played like crap. That was O'Korn who was 7/16 w/ 59 yards.

      • I don't think he player particularly well the entire season. He padded stats against tomato cans and he had the luxury of a first rate defense that got him the ball in terrific position and erased his mistakes.

The measure of a QB is what he does when he's challenged. And he failed every test. Even the tough games they won were via defense and special teams. Yeah he completed one deep ball against Wisconsin after flunking away every drive for 3 straight quarters, including the pick that led to their only score of the day. On most other teams he's down 28-7 at that point.

        • If Speight is terrible as KStat claims, then Harbaugh shouldn't have stuck with him through thick and thin.

If Speight is far better than O'Korn and anyone else, then the difference coming out of preseason was nowhere near as close as advertised. Obviously, Harbaugh and the other coaches claim the difference was slight so as to not dis O'Korn (or Morris in 2015). But I'm sure there are / will be years where the first 2 or 3 QBs are very even. To just shut one down and ride the other is to gamble the season on the uncertain odds of the 1st stringer remaining healthy and effective.

What if O'Korn had remained a viable option and came in firing when Speight lost it against Iowa?

          • The three games he was injured were his 'tests'? How did other QB's do in their 3 worst games?

Huh? What experience does John O'Korn have? Who are the QB coaches he is working with? This post is shoddy.

Fine. Let's just say the final 3 road games. MSU, Iowa, OSU.

                2 TDs, 4 Ints in 3 games.

If you want to include his craptastic performance against FSU as a roadie, that grows to 3 and 5.

His tests are games when he was challenged. He failed every single one, including the games his team bailed him out of. His numbers were padded against tomato cans and they weren't very good anyway.

Michigan will never go anywhere with him. They aren't Alabama. They need a QB that can actually play at a high level.

                        • What would've been Speight's numbers if he were at Iowa? Wisconsin?

                          • Guessing way worse. Those teams actually needed to consistently score points to win. They didn't have the luxury of playing for a good punt. Speight would have been forced to be more aggressive more often, and we've seen how that plays out for him.

                            • You expect Brandon Peters to beat him out next season, then?

                              He'll probably be 3rd string?

                              • If you are going to win a National Championship, you need to be Alabama. They aren't going anywhere.
