  • Joe Cullen will be the Jaguars defensive coordinator

Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has hired his defensive coordinator.

ESPN reports that Ravens defensive line coach Joe Cullen will be joining Meyer in Jacksonville. It’s the first time he’s had a coordinator job at the professional level.

Cullen had a previous stint as the Jaguars’ defensive line coach and has also been a position coach with the Buccaneers, Browns, and Lions. He had stints as a coordinator at the collegiate level with Richmond and Indiana.

Cullen’s departure leaves the Ravens with several holes to fill on their defensive staff. Linebackers coach Mike Macdonald is now the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan and defensive backs coach Jesse Minter took the same job at Vanderbilt.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Martin Mayhew will not be the General Manager of the Washington Football Team, but he will reportedly be joining the organization.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Mayhew will be leaving his position as the 49ers vice president of player personnel and taking a job in Washington. His title is to be determined, but he will be a “high-ranking executive” with the team.

Mayhew had interviewed for the General Manager opening before the team hired Marty Hurney to fill the position this week.

Mayhew played four seasons as a defensive back with Washington and went to law school after the end of his playing carreer. He began working in the Lions’ personnel department in 2001 and was their General Manager from 2008-2015.
Now they are saying Mayhew is going to be Washington’s GM.
      Whoa.

      BPA heading to Washington!

            • Report: Chargers, Seahawks want to interview Joe Lombardi for offensive coordinator

The Saints lost one offensive assistant when Dan Campbell was hired as the head coach of the Lions and another member of Sean Payton’s staff could be in the mix for a couple of offensive coordinator openings.

Jeff Duncan of TheAthletic.com reports that the Chargers and Seahawks have requested permission to interview quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi for their offensive coordinator openings.

Lombardi is in his second stint with the Saints. He returned to the team in 2016 after spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Lions.

Prior to entering the NFL as a Falcons assistant in 2006, Lombardi was the offensive coordinator at Mercyhurst College. Chargers head coach Brandon Staley played quarterback for the school while Lombardi was on the staff, which may explain the team’s interest in his services.

Washington announces hiring of Martin Mayhew as G.M.

Posted by Myles Simmons on January 22, 2021, 8:27 AM EST

                USA TODAY Sports

Though former Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney was initially reported to be Washington’s choice for the same role, the Football Team officially named Martin Mayhew its G.M. on Friday morning.

Mayhew spent seven seasons as the Lions’ G.M. from 2008-2015. He was most recently the vice president of player personnel for the 49ers.

“Martin is a proven General Manager who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the organization,” Washington head coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. “He will be an integral part of running the daily football operations and will allow me the opportunity to focus more on coaching. He impressed both myself and [team owner Dan] Snyder during the interview process and we both believe he will be a tremendous fit here. He is a man of high character and integrity and was part of the rich history and tradition of this great franchise as a member of the Super Bowl championship team in 1991.”

Mayhew spent nine seasons in the league as a cornerback, winning Super Bowl XXVI with Washington.

Mayhew will report directly to Rivera.

Hurney is still expected to join the organization and will work alongside Mayhew, according NFL media’s Ian Rapoport.

                  DARRELL BEVELLOC, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Jaguars hired ex-Lions OC Darrell Bevell as offensive coordinator.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, "several teams made a push to hire Bevell" after he finished 2020 as the Lions' interim coach. It's a better hire than new coach Urban Meyer's initial rumored target, Scott Linehan. An NFL coordinator more or less continuously since 2006, Bevell oversaw an explosive 2019 unit in Detroit before Matthew Stafford broke his back. Things were much more uneven in 2020, though bad health played a part. Bevell's vast NFL experience, as well as comfort with both the run and pass, will serve as an excellent sounding board for Meyer as he gets himself up to NFL speed. It's unclear who will be the play-caller.

Damn, Josh McCown as a HC came out of no where. Ridiculous if you ask me ... if that happens.
