  • LaRose was caught on tape a couple weeks ago telling a friendly crowd that raising the threshold is absolutely all about stopping that abortion amendment. This was after months of denial that abortion played any role.

Ohio Sec. of State LaRose admits Issue 1 is about one issue: abortion (news5cleveland.com)

    • "Caught" -- lol. Any person w/ a brain knows exactly what's going on. And any person w/ a brain knows that politicians lie.

Oh I know. Everybody knew what was going on. But his tune has certainly changed. It's probably deliberate. Someone's probably got internal polling that shows people won't be motivated to vote in defense of 60% thresholds as much as "do it to stop abortion!".

"Good government" occurs only to the extent it overlaps w/ self-interest. We do our best to align the two with tenets of democracy, but...(2) single-party rule is not good. We point out the ludicrous laws enacted in various Prog-run cities/states all the time, and folks on the Left point out the stupid shit R-run places do. What they have in common is single-party domination which, to (1), means almost an unfettered ability to indulge their own self-interest.

I view (1) and (2) as universally true for all government regardless of party. I'm more inclined to vote R because they are, IMO, less inclined to view government as a never-ending cure for every damn thing, so they are, IMO, less likely to pass terrible shit only because they are less likely to act. But if they do act, there's a solid chance it'll be bad, and the Ohio stuff I outlined qualifies as bad (IMO).

It's gonna lose (IMO). My wife is currently apopletic and keep telling her I'll save my outrage for when/if this her worst case scenario comes to fruition.

It's gonna be a choice vote -- that's it. And it's gonna be a question of turn out, and I think the choice voters are more motivated AND they have some margin to work with.

AND, I'm not even sure it'll be on the ballot in August. The joint resolution shit isn't kosher.

              So, we'll see.

Anyway, I wanted to give the whole story for folks not familiar with Ohio politics. In a vacuum, the 60/40 idea is completely supportable. It's the context that is shady. But, again, that's what happens when government is single party.

Sounds like another bludgeoning is on the way for the Rs. Maybe one day they’ll realize abortion is a bigly losing issue for them.

                          • The Chairman responds to the Saudi move...by saying he is not concerned about the price of a barrel of oil...he's concerned about the price at the pump...because of course it's the greedy oil companies and gas station owners who are fucking the consumer...not Joe's inane energy policies!

I'm not concerned about the price of beef...but I'm concerned about the price of a hamburger!
