  • Yeah, Greg Biggins, the Scout National Director and a West Coast guy, seems to think OSU is a very good position, but it's not a lock. His sources told him that UFM's in-home blew him away and he was ready to commit then and there.

He's announcing at the Army game, so no more visits of any kind before then, just calls, texts, etc.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • Nebraska lost a DE recruit today. Can't believe a position of such need isn't attractive to recruits

            • Nebraska recruiting update for the offense:

              QB:

Tristan Gebbia, 4 star kid from Calabassas CA. He's been a husker commit for some time. Strong arm, good height but will need a RS season to add weight.

scout comments: Gebbia is a smooth pocket passer with a quick release and a nice feel for the position. He shows poise in the pocket, the ability to make quick decisions and is very accurate. He's a good athlete who can move around in the pocket, throw on the run or scramble for plus yards. He shows nice touch on the deep ball and can put plenty of zip on the slants. He's a solid leader at the QB position and will benefit from a college strength program when he can bulk up and add some size. Overall, Gebbia has a lot of tools that translate well to the next level and he's a very nice college prospect- Biggins

              RB:

I'll put Greg Johnson here, even though he's being recruited as an athlete. 4 star kid from LA. He can play RB or DB. 5'10" and 180 lbs. UNL has a good chance with Greg.

scout comments: Johnson is one of the top two-way players out West. He has the ability to play running back or even receiver on offense as well as corner, safety or even grow in to a linebacker on the defensive side of the ball. He's a physical player who competes at a high level. He's tough, athletic and a game breaker on both sides of the ball. As a corner, he's strong in press coverage and can bully smaller wide receivers. As a running back, he's tough enough to go between the tackles and has the burst to kick it outside and take it to the house- Biggins

Another prospect is Bellevue (Nebraska) West running back Jaylin Bradley. From a talent perspective, there is no issue. Some have said he's the best back in Omaha since Ahman Green. Issue is grades. He still has work to do.. If he can qualify, he should be a husker.

Other names that are being recruited are C.J. Verdell, 4 star RB from Chula Vista, CA who currently is an Oregon commit. While only 5'9", he's suppose to be very elusive.

              FB:

Ben Miles has been committed to UNL for several months. 3 star from Baton Rouge, Louisiana

              WR:

Keyshawn Johnson and Jaevon McQuitty are two 4 star commitments for UNL. KJ is from Calabassas CA while Jaevon is from Columbia Mo. Both have decent height and run good routes.

scout comments: Johnson is a smooth pass catcher with as good a hands as any receiver in the region. He was raised in a football family and you can tell as he's extremely polished as a route runner, knows how to get open and is a very smart football player. He has worked hard to improve his overall athleticism and down field speed and is much improved after the catch as well. He has a big frame that he's still growing in to and plays a physical style and is a strong blocker. He shows very good body control and timing on jump balls and is a highly competitive player as well- Biggins

scout comments: McQuitty projects to be a possession-type wideout at the next level. What makes him one of the best in the nation is his reliability. He creates separation and is open with a high level of consistently. He has great hands, and high-points the football at an extremely high level. He also is tremendous in traffic. He's limited by his lack of top-end speed, preventing him from doing too much damage after the catch.

The biggest names on UNL's WR board is Joseph Lewis. 6'3" 5 star WR from LA. Biggins believes he's a UNL lean. Scout has him as the #1 WR in the country. Most feel is he ready to play immediately due to his frame, size and skill set.

Jamire Calvin is a 5'10" 4 star WR from LA as well. He's been to UNL multiple times and appears to be down to ND and UNL.

Gavin Holmes is a 5'11" WR from Justin Tx. He was in Lincoln this past weekend and was supposedly blown away.

              TE:

UNL has two commits at this time. Austin Allen is a 6'8" 3 star from Auroa Ne who is very solid to the Huskers. Reese Leitao is a 6'4" 3 star from Jenks Ok. Recently, Reese went to Austin to visit the longhorns. He's considered a soft commit

scout comments: Austin Allen, a 6-foot-8 tight end from Aurora checks in as No. 1 in the state and it is not a surprise to see that he is staying home and playing for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He looks every bit of his listed height on his game tape and is a great receiver at the position using his body to his advantage, especially in the red zone where he can be a solid option for his quarterback to lock on to. He will continue to get better and better as he adds strength and weight. - Greg Powers

              OL:

Nebraska has 2 OG and 1 OT committed at this point. Leading the pack is 4 star OG Matt Sichterman from Kings Mills OH. He has some versatility to play Right Tackle, but most likely will end up at guard. He is currently 6'5" and 265 lbs.

scout comments: Sichterman has a good frame. He's lean with plenty of room to grow and get stronger. He bends well and has good feet and athleticism. He can redirect himself and plays with excellent balance and coordination. Once he locks onto a defender, more often than not, he drives them and finishes them. He has all the tools to excel in pass protection, he just hasn't done as much of it yet.

Broc Brando is a 3 star OG from Bradenton FL (originally from Lincoln NE, but transferred to the IMG Academy in HS). The 6'5" 280 guard is an aggressive blocker who is athletic.

scout comments: Bando is a kid that possesses the versatility to play some right tackle long-term, but currently projects best in the interior at offensive guard. He's an aggressive kid that's on the lookout for contact until each play is whistled dead, but has to continue to get stronger to enhance his drive blocking skills. Bando is also a decent athlete that gets out and reaches the second level with ease.

At Tackle, UNL has a commitment from 3 star Brenden Jaimes. A 6'6" 265 LB tackle from Austin Tx. He has a great from for Tackle and should be able to put on good weight.

scout comments: Brenden Jaimes is yet another Power Five conference-caliber prospect from Austin-area powerhouse Lake Travis High School. Jaimes possesses an outstanding frame for the offensive tackle position. He has very good height and ample space for additional bulk as he matures physically. Jaimes is an aggressive run-blocker who relishes his opportunities to drive block. He plays through the whistle and isn't afraid to make tone-setting hits and blocks on opponents at the second level. Because of his aforementioned frame, Jaimes has a very high ceiling as a pass protector. He already shows quick feet and good lateral mobility when engaged in pass pro. Because of his height and length, he can improve his leverage consistency. He'll also get stronger and stronger as he ages, which will help him become an even more impressive run-blocker. Jaimes is a high-major OT prospect who will have his pick of numerous offers. - Gabe Brooks

UNL is still trying to recruit OT (a position of need). They are in the mix for 5 star Foster Sarell from Graham WA and 4 star Chuck Filiaga from Aledo Tx. Sarell seems to be a Stanford or Washington lean. Filiaga enjoyed his recent trip to Lincoln and the huskers have made up a lot of ground. Michigan, USC, Texas and OU are all in play. UNL really needs one of these OT. I think they will strike out, which is disappointing consider UNL's depth and needs at OT.

                  • Defensive Recruiting:

                    DL Committed Players:
Deiontae Watts is a 4 star DT from Plano Tx. He has the size most recent UNL DT have lacked at 6'3" and 302lbs. Texas is making a late push for Watts but appears he's solid for UNL.
from scout: Watts is a big interior defensive line prospect who's potentially scheme-versatile at the Power Five conference level. Big frame and good size to match. Powerful at the point of attack. Shows ability to back up traffic and plug gaps. Can take on blockers and still affect opponents' run game. Strong hands aid in consistent disengaging ability and sure tackling. Sometimes can collapse pocket as interior pass-rusher. At times, shows excellent get-off at the snap, but inconsistent in that aspect of his game for now. Can improve body control, especially when taking contact. Possibly scheme-versatile enough to play in an even or odd front. Overall a big, physical interior talent who projects to the P5 level. - Gabe Brooks

Deontre Thomas is a 3 star DT from Mustang OK. While also standing at 6'3", Thomas is lighter and will need to grow into the position. He has an active motor and considered athletic. He's been committed for UNL for some time.
scout comments: Thomas is a fun defender to watch. He moves around the defensive line playing some end and tackle in and odd front in high school and shows a high motor, chasing down plays and wreaking havoc. He uses his hands effectively and plays with good leverage. He is still a bit undersized, but has plenty of time to add bulk. For a defensive tackle prospect he is very athletic and shows it by batting down passes or running down ball carriers in the open field. - Greg Powers

Guy Thomas is a 3 star OLB who is being recruited for DE at UNL. While only weighing 201 lbs currently, UNL likes his ability to pressure QB's from the edge. He's from Miami FL and has played against some good competition. This past weekend, he visited Maryland. It appears the trip actually solidified his commitment to UNL.

                    DL Recruits:

Damion Daniels is a 3 star DT from Dallas Tx. At 320 lbs, he is another player that has the size UNL DT's have lacked coming out of HS. He's taken recent visits to Colorado, but most feel UNL is in the drivers seat.

UNL is still recruiting 4 star DT Tyler Shelvin, who is currently committed to LSU. Current plans are for him to visit Lincoln in Jan. DL coach Parella has a good relationship with Shelvin and Shelvin allegedly called the staff to set up the visit. Hopefully, the staff can get him to Lincoln despite pressures from LSU not to go.

                    Linebacker Committed Players:

Avery Roberts is a 4 star commitment from Wilmington DE. Stud UNL desperately wanted at OLB. He's going to be an early enroller.
scout comments: Roberts could grow into a defensive end, but he also could turn into an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. He is quick and accelerates well toward the ball carrier in the running game. He is also change direction well, and he does not over-pursue. He has good length and reads plays well in front of him. He has the athleticism and length to be good in coverage, but he needs to improve his footwork and feel for it. -- Brian Dohn

Willie Hampton is a 2 star prospect from Plantation FL. He has a verified 4.53 forty @ 6'2" and 220 lbs.

                    Linebacker Recruits:

Isaac Slade-Matautia is a 4 star OLB from Honolulu HI. He visited UNL this past weekend and all indications are the visit went well. At 6'1" and 220 lbs he's a hard hitting LB that loves to play at the LOS.
scout comments: Slade-Matautia is a versatile 'backer who could play inside or outside in college. He's a physical player and hits like a truck. He runs well, shows good lateral mobility and is comfortable playing in space. He has a solid frame with room to put on plenty of mass and not lose any of his athleticism. He's a high motor player who plays with a ton of passion and projects as a high BCS level prospect- Biggins

Andrew Ward is a 3 star ILB from Muskegon MI. Sounds like a talented kid, but academics seem to be a risk. Raw but athletic with some upside.

Jaquan Henderson is a 4 star OLB from Covington GA. He's considered a soft verbal to Tennessee, but has been taking trips. I think the chances are slim here, but he likes the UNL staff.

                    Committed DB's:

                    none

                    Recruited DB's:

As mentioned in the offensive update, Greg Johnson could play DB at UNL. Nice to have potential recruits who can play more than one position.

Thomas Graham is a 4 star CB from Rancho Cucamonga CA. He's suppose to announce this Friday between Oregon and Nebraska. Biggins thinks UNL, but we will see.. Would be great to land a stud CB in this class.
scout comments: Graham is a pure cover corner and one of the best in the country. He has good size, runs very well and is physical at the line of scrimmage. He's strong in press coverage and plays with plenty of toughness and attitude. He has the size to match up with the bigger receivers and the speed and flexibility to turn and run with the smaller, shiftier guys. He works very hard off the field, is a good student and is one of the most well rounded players out West.

Deommodore Lenoir is a 4 star CB from LA. He was committed to Oregon but with the coaching changes is back looking around. scout comments: Lenoir is easily among the top corners out West. He's a strong, physical player and very tough. He plays with an edge to him and is a fierce competitor. He runs well, plays with excellent technique and has a high football IQ. He has long arms and is very good in press coverage. He can run with faster receivers and shows nice burst out of his breaks.

Kameron Curl is a 3 star S from Muskogee OK. While probably TCU or an OU lean, coaches have visited and he's been actively communicating with other UNL recruits. UNL likes him at S or CB.

Elijah Blades is a 4 star CB from Pasadena CA. He's been a florida commit, but with recent staff changes and UNL's hiring of Williams, it appears he may take a visit to Lincoln.

Trajon Cotton is a 3 star S from Sacramento CA. UNL and Colorado have led for Trajon's commitment but recently Oregon has made up ground. The 2 way race now appears to be a 3 way race for Cotton's signature.

                    • Unless another OLB can play DE, I think UNL will need to hit the JUCO ranks hard next year. They needed at least 2 if not 3 DE in this class
