  • They did beat Vandy, but Vandy ended with a losing record last year, too. And they're Vandy. But, yes, the Arkie win was impressive. I considered it an outlier. In the middle of those two games was a Vol asskicking.

They beat a very bad FCS team this Saturday by 29. I don't know how much we can take from that, other than the offense might be competent and the defense might be the worst in SEC history. But its just one game, so who knows. That said, I have no hate for Missou. It won't hurt my feelings if they have a good year and I'm as wrong as Talent on...well, just about everything.

On a side note, I'd like to thank Michigan for beating Florida this last week. That was very much appreciated.

A Georgia thread separate from an SEC thread in a U of M forum seemed a little unnecessary. That said, welcome!

      • But Vandy and Arkansas are your #8 + #4 team. Why can't the team that beat them last season improve? Especially if they return everyone.

My point in all this: Let's see the B12 team (Missou) in the SEC play against SC and see what happens. It's early. Drew Lock has potential...

Last year was last year. It has no relevance on this year. Even last year, an outlier win over Arkie doesnt make me think the better team won. For what it's worth, I think Mizzou and Vandy were about equals. But one miraculous win over the Hogs does not a great team make: I think Bama was better than Ole Miss the last time they beat us. I think M was better than Iowa, Ohio State better than VaTech a couple of years ago, and so on. If Bama shits the bed Saturday against Fresno State, we will end up ranked 7th or 8th in the nation and it's not a slam dunk that Fresno would even be in top 25. So, this way of thinking isn't really unique.

I get your point: wait until the games are played and see who wins. The thing is, the point of a sports forum is to post opinions, make predictions, and discuss your thoughts on teams, games, and the people in the sport.

But I will tell you what, if I'm wrong and Missouri eeks out an 8-win season, I will sport a mizzou logo as my userpic for a couple of weeks and put "Cody knows more about football than me" as my tagline for that same period if you will wear a Bama logo and have a similar tagline touting me for a week (that's 2-to-1 odds!) if they have 7 or fewer wins.

I was getting really sick of being notably uninterested in Nebraska news and of not knowing jack about lacrosse, so I think this is a nice new option for pretending to not give a fuck. If we had a K-State thread that would be even better.

              • This is my thread now; AA gave it to me. It is now a place to discuss whether the north should have let the south go in the first place, and how the US would be smarter, richer, prettier, taller, more diverse genetically, and able to get it up without Viagra whilst simultaneously splitting the atom if they'd have done precisely that.

Note: in this thread Ohio is a part of the south.

There is always some relevance. Especially when you have so many similarities. Same players, same coaches, same toilets, etc. Those signs can help forecast the future.
Missou, you have a team that finished 4-8 last season in a "rebuild year." 15 was kind of bad too, but it wasn't too long ago (2014) that they won the East. Again, first half of 2016, they were terrible. Then it seems they found something out with Drew Lock and young guys on offense. ALL of those players are back on offense. So you would think they will add a few more wins, depending on the schedule.

I can see 7-5 or 8-4 for Missou. Beat SC next week and you are looking at 3-0 guaranteed. Drew Lock with Crockett + Moore make up a lethal trio. What I love is the continuity of the o-line. Defense? Sure, they have a B12 defense. Their HC is a defensive guy, so you would think fixing his D at the top of his priorities.
and uh oh, last time someone challenged me to a profile pic bet, they had to change their pic to Stephen F Austin for a year. ... made some dumb predictions recently (BYU dark-horse in 15, Brian Kelly on the hot seat)... but I'll take this one.
Missou goes 8-4 (or better), or I'll change my pic to some Bama thing for a couple weeks.

Now, for the love of all that's holy, let's not talk about Missouri anymore today.
