  • You need to move to mob movie reviews for a bit, DSL. Recently been on a kick. Rewatched the following fairly recently:
    • Godfather I/II
    • Casino
    • Goodfellas
    • Bronx Tale
    • Drunken Angel (a classic Kurosawa film from the 40’s about the Yakuza)
    • Miller’s Crossing
    • Donnie Brasco

    • Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco are my go to mob movies...funny story...the real life Henry Hlll lived here after the WPP booted him out...and all the mobsters who wanted him dead were dead...he was a fucking arrogant fucktard...owned an Italian restaurant here...and it sucked...my now ex old hag actually cussed him out one night for the shitty food and service...

...looking back I should have had him whack her...
      Shut the fuck up Donny!

      • Never seen Donnie Brasco, Bronx Tale, or the Kurosawa film

Watched Miller's Crossing for the first time ever a few months ago and that's a great film. It's not the Coen Brothers movie I'll watch the most but it might be their best

        • It’s not the best Coen film. Grow up.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
          Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

All three that you’ve missed are very worthwhile. Get on it.

My fav depends on my mood. Goodfellas is great. Don’t sleep on Casino, either. Quality film. And The Godfather I/II is just classic with an incredible cast.

Oh, I agree. It is a great film though, but NCFOM, Fargo, and Lebowski is a tough lineup to supplant.

                      • Burn After Reading is the best Coen Bros movie. It’s worth it for the two JK Simmons scenes alone.

                        Miller’s Crossing is meh.

                        Barton Fink is kinda meh.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou drags on too long.

                        intolerable Cruelty is pretty good.

TBL is good but hipsters have spoiled it somewhat by overquoting it.

                        Raising Arizona is great.

Fargo is good but I feel like all of the themes in it have been done better in their other movies.

Hail Caesar has really grown on me. Really good movie but a little overindulgent in places.

A Serious Man is utter shit and an an absolutely terrible waste of celluloid. I’d rather watch Don Brown try to defend an Urban Meyer offense on repeat than be subjected to fhat slice of cinematic AIDS again.

                        • I don't recall ever seeing that movie but that last line is gold, GOLD, I tell ya.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

                            • Speaking of mob movies, has anyone watched The Irishman? I assume it’s good and It seems like a no-brainer but with that kind of run time, I’d prefer some validation before I commit.

                              • I thought it was alright, nothing special. I always have problem with old actors trying to look/act young. Terrible CGI making them look weird at times instead of younger in any meaningful way and works mostly just as an annoying distraction. The dialogue wise- guy language looks and speaks danger has been done to death in basically all the mafia-movies and Scorsese himself? Getting the band back together isn't always a good idea.
