                • I know at this time of the year it's academic, but some basketball guru will have to explain this to me:

Alabama: RPI 23, SOS #5, record of 8-3 (7-3 before tonight).

Rhode Island: RPI 21, SOS #10, record of 6-3.

And Alabama beat Rhode Island earlier this year.

Bama has a better W-L record, a stronger schedule, and won H2H. How does Rhode Island have a higher RPI?

                  • It is probably the opponent's opponents record.

Opponents' opponents record is a component of SOS, I thought.

Kenpom has Bama at #43 and Rhode Island at 51 - which seems more accurate.

                          • Maybe so. The numbers changed last night. Rhode Island moved up to #18 without playing. Bama beat RPI 149 Mercer by 1 and stayed at #23.

It's just weird. I guess the formula is out there. I may try to look it up later.

I also find it odd the espn hasn't given the benefit of the doubt to bama.... hard to explain.
