Gores pretty much said they are moving downtown. It sounds like finding land for a practice facility is the biggest hurdle and there is a parcel of land between the Motor City Casino and the new arena that the Ilitches own.
To me it's the same amount of drive to get to The Palace or the new arena. I like The Palace but it is a place that you go to the event and leave. There is not much around it. The new arena has a lot of new development going up around it. It will do for Midtown what the two stadiums did for the downtown area.
I'm not sure how the Pistons actually make more money being a tenant but like a lot of these projects now it is about the surrounding area and how you make money off of that.Comment

As I said, there's nothing "wrong" with the Pistons moving downtown. It would be a better fit for them to actually be in Detroit and be a part of the city's very slow but getting there rebound.Originally posted by nhwbrooklyn View Post
The problem is that the Palace will be what amounts to ruin porn like the Silverdome (I doubt the handful of events it gets will even pay the property tax), which is just so wasteful considering there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Palace.Comment
