When we lost a comrade in arms we toasted his life knowing that he would expect us to carry on in his absence on earth knowing that he was encouraging us from above to do our best down here.

Again, thanks for all the encouragement and kind words. Saying "It means a lot to me" might sound so cliche', but it really is true, as is something I was told by one close friend the other day, to paraphrase, "You know you're turning the corner when you realize that the smiles you find yourself having, when recalling the good memories, outweigh the sorrow of your loss".
For all you that are parents or even grandparents, as well as you guys who still have parents and even grandparents (and I'm sure many of you already have learned this), promise yourselves this: hug your kids, hug your grandkids, hug your folks, and hug your grandparents---and most of all, don't forget to tell them you love them, too---while you can, as often as you can. I already realized, years ago, how lucky I was to still have both parents when in my 50's myself (while practically all my friends had already lost a parent or two). Just my 2 cents worth...Comment

I had an interesting run-in last night while serving as a host for the Holiday Invitational at Lansing Eastern HS.
In the final game of the evening, Troy HS played against Okemos HS. Troy was "my" team. I met them as they came off their team bus, escorted them to their locker room, and basically served as their "gopher" for the time they were there.
During the game, I found out that Troy has a young man playing for them who is the son of a former Michigan player. His name was Maceo Baston Jr. I got to meet him afterward. Nice kid. Tall, but skinny. Good shooter, though.
I didn't think Baston was old enough to have a son that old, but hey ... in today's world I guess anything is possible ..."What you're doing, speaks so loudly, that I can't hear what you are saying"Comment

One month after getting married, former NFL linebacker Chris Draft lost his wife today after a long bout with breast cancer. She was so weakened by the disease that she was in a wheelchair for the private wedding, just one month before she died.
Draft, who played most of his 12-year career in Atlanta, released a statement on his wife on their family foundation website.
Not just an inspiration, but a light, and a force that led the way with a beautiful, sweet smile and bright shining eyes that both belied the pure steel of her strength and determination.
Strong is too pale, too shallow and too small of a word to describe Keasha's vibrancy… Quite simply, she was ferocious. She fiercely held onto life, and love with a forcefulness that was absolutely awe-inspiring and completely breathtaking. Rest in peace, Mrs. Draft.
Twitter was flooded with people moved by the Draft's love story. Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons shared his condolences via Twitter, and a guestbook commemorating her quickly was filled with messages of support to the Draft family.
