  • On top of the Cohen sentencing, SDNY let this news fly:

Key part in the last sentence:

According to SDNY, AMI is now offering " substantial and important assistance" in an ongoing investigation.
American Media Inc., parent company of the National Enquirer, has admitted that a $150,000 payment to ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal was made in concert with Trump's presidential campaign for the purpose of influencing the election.

Beat me to that...so it's probably more than just Cohen's word on saying Trump was involved. Probably testimony from both of the National Enquirer guys too.

      • emptywheel has been banging the drum about possibly not indicting Trump but indicting the Trump organization. AMI cooperating theoretically would be key to that as Pecker was another fixer for him.

Yeah, I seriously doubt they gave both the AMI guys and Weisselberg at the Trump Org. immunity all in order to convict only Cohen. They make a point to say the investigation is ongoing too.

            • SDNY is so good that not only did they get Cohen to confess to imaginary crimes, they got AMI and their whole team of corporate lawyers to do it too! Damn, are they good!

Eagerly awaiting the usual hot takes from FoxNews 'legal scholars' like Gregg Jarrett and Judge Jeanine

              • bunch of hypocrites

260 claims settled by congress to settle claims against house members paid for by the taxpayer--
Two things have become painfully clear on Capitol Hill this week: Lawmakers and staffers say sexual harassment is “rampant” – but even members of Congress have no idea just how widespread the problem is.

an absolute joke they are gonna try to impeach with that track record

everyone of them influenced an election because everyone of those 260 were up for relection within 2 years

go ahead and bring your lawsuits who's your first witness--stormy? avenatti? cohen the liar or cohen the prisoner accused of lying?

you think its ugly now every one of those fisa warrants and documented cases of the prior administrations attempts to use intelligence to influence an election goes full nuclear when he gets impeached.

this would be popcorn worthy if the country wasn't stuck with nothing but a political system that cant accomplish a thing. They accuse, leak and corrupt everything they attempt to govern if it can be used to discredit the other side.

                • The thing about attacks on lefty pols from the right is that being wrong isn't a prerequisite. People that aren't wrong get attacked all the time from the right. The common thread, when you come under that kind of flack, is that they worry you'll be effective.

The first witness is probably Flynn. He's the one getting a good deal from Mueller, not Cohen.

                    • Cohen got a good deal from Mueller, he seemingly got no quarter from SDNY.

                      • crash is kidding himself if he thinks they are solely relying on Cohen's alleged lies and no additional evidence.

There's no impeachment yet, lets wait for the big reveal from Mueller. That might be a ways away, the better solution is voting him out.

                        • Right, sorry.

It's not just him though. There are quite a few more people who need to go to jail, including Javanka.

                            • Was just reminded that Michael Cohen, among other duties, was also Deputy Finance Chair at the Republican National Committee.

And among his three clients as an attorney was his fellow Deputy Chair Eliott Broidy who apparently hired Cohen for similar hush money ventures
