    • "West Canadian Select" is what the Alberta tar sands oil trades under. It's going for just under $4.30 a barrel. Heard lots of jokes that Labatt's and maple syrup cost more

Hurricane Katrina 2.0. You probably weren't as attuned to it 15 years ago but it was the same bullshit blame game on W. as it is on Trump now.

It's a very good preview of the Green New Deal.

          • Oil prices plunging. West Texas Intermediate futures fell 34% to $11.98 per barrel. Brent crude, the international benchmark, was down 5.6% to $26.51, this morning.

Can I prepay 1000 gallons of gasoline and start collecting it next year?

Are you willing to do 42,000 gallons? If so, you can buy futures contracts on the NYMEX about 30 c/gallon above where they are today.

              • To reopen the economy you are going to need a lot of testing and all over the US is running low on some of the chemicals. People are understandably nervous about going back. Most won't come out until they think it is safe.

In the meantime there are things that the feds could do ease things economically but this administration will not consider them.

                • You might be best off converting your basement into a crude oil storage tank. Just holding it for a few months will net you $20/bbl if the prices being quoted in the futures markets come to pass.

Heh. Yeah, I wish there was an easier way to buy low and sell high for crude.

Not sure you would even have to do that it would be a matter of reordering priorities and to realize that the US economy these days flows up from the bottom. But I am sure not many on these boards would be upset if such measures where taken.

                        • There will be no economic stimulus because the only thing that the government can do is redistribute wealth at this point by printing more paper.

                              • At the end of last week, the talk was all about test, test, test. This morning, that same talk persisted in the news. The new narrative though is about the struggle going on between the President and state Governors over testing, re-opening and the like. Let's just put aside the Trump BS by recognizing its a campaign gamut to rally his base albeit dangerous messaging ..... about which he doesn't give a shit as long as it advances his re-election interests.

On to the more important issue. It's seen among both the lay public. medical practitioners and researchers that in-home antibody testing would catch us up and provide a good basis upon which to move forward with opening. The link below (I don't think it's pay-walled) will take you to a decent article - the comments section is better wrt illuminating problems with in-home COVID testis.

If you don't read the article/comments, the gist of it is that, yeah, this is the right approach but, there are a lot of problems left to be resolved (the products flooding the market right now have not been validated as accurate, production capacity is definitely there but QC is lacking). The comments section raises many significant issues with in-home anti-body testing or any kind of anti-body testing with problems easing the more these tests are run at the point of care via well established protocols. Comments also include foot dragging by the FDA in fast tracking these products that may or may not be valid. I've already come down on the side of the FDA being very involved with QC and protocol guidance for emerging drugs - testing falls into that same support for the FDA, role wrt drugs.
