  • Everyone wants to punish China for the coronavirus but that's going to be painful for us too.

    • Yeah, there's probably no way around that. But if you want a unified response to Chinese misdeeds, there's probably no better time. Global sentiment against them is probably at an all-time high, even if not a lot of countries say so publicly and others have been bribed into silence. France was delivering weapons to Taiwan this week when China started screaming about the One China policy and France harming relations. France politely told them to fuck off and told them to be more focused on covid prevention

France dismissed Chinese warnings on Wednesday about selling arms to Taiwan, saying it was implementing existing deals and that China and other countries should focus on battling the coronavirus pandemic…

        • France showing backbone?!?

Why are the streets of Paris lined with trees?
So the Germans can march in the shade.

          • This report from Brookings compares unemployment figures by country and addresses the various differences by which governments have addressed unemployment compensation. The report is very clear that these differences can be confounding to conclusions drawn with respect to the impact of COVID and labor markets and by extension a nation's economy. How the labor market has been impacted by COVID, how governments respond, will have an impact on the speed of the economic recovery, the Brookings study concludes. The conclusions Brookings draws about this are pre-preliminary pending more data but, the US, compared to other countries has fared poorly and because of that it's economic recovery will be slower than elsewhere.

If we take the conclusions at face value, it calls into question the method by which the US congress has addressed unemployment and fiscal stimulus using what look to be more successful methods used by other countries as benchmarks. It also points, IMO, to the faults in the upcoming fiscal stimulus plan that Pelosi sent to the Senate yesterday. McConnell hammered it as well he should. Another round of stimulus checks won't stimulate the economy. Period. The evidence is out there that those checks are going into the bank, to pay off debt or pay bills. Most aren't going ouot on shopping sprees.

If I'm reading the Brookings report correctly, paying companies to keep employees on the payroll by beefing up the PPP will, most likely, hasten the recovery of the US economy. The way to bail the states out is to get business back up and running as quickly as possible so municipalities can begin collecting money derived from business activity - I don't have a problem with a short term payment to states/municipalities but not a massive one. I'm fine with providing money to insure basic services at the local level are maintained.

There is such a thing as redemption. Jim Harbaugh is redeemed at the expense of a fading Ryan Day and OSU. M wins back to back games v. OSU first time since 1999-2000 - John Cooper was fired in 2000!!!

            • Just checking in. It's the middle of May and the world was supposed to have effectively ended by now- there was supposed to be universal grieving, mass graves, overflowing and collpasing hospitals (with NO ventilators or other supplies) and we were supposed to be scrounging for food and wiping our asses with poison oak leaves..

But the biggest things this week are about Jeff's marina being opened and the Blue Angels doing flybys.

              What's going on here?

True. The funny thing is the French, for about a thousand years, were warriors (at least from about 100 years after the Viking siege of Paris in 850 (or whatever) through WW1. They fought England, on and off for centuries, didn’t mind helping the Colonists in the Revolutionary War, fought valiantly in WW1...then in WWII became the cheese-eating surrender monkeys we know them as today.

                • Hell, the French had their own international band of mercenaries they used as as an arm of their military in the French Foreign Legion that they’d ship out for skirmishes when they got bored.

Martel and Charlemagne were fine. But when Charlemagne died, the Vikings marched in, took Paris, kicked ass, robbed, raped, pillaged, and sat their fat asses around the Seine until Charles the Bald paid off Ragnar and begged him to leave. Because of that stain, I don’t think you can stretch their warlike tendencies before 900AD or so without a giant asterisk.

                              • Texas testing is increasing massively. I'm motherfucking shocked there's an increase in cases. MOTHERFUCKING SHOCKED.

As for the deaths, they were half of what Pennsylvania had. HALF.

Oh, and what about Colorado? You know, the state that has re-opened under basically the same rules as Texas, Florida and Georiga? Colorado has suffered 189 deaths/million. Texas is at 43. Florida is at 87. Georgia is at 147. Yet, we haven't heard fucking jackshit form the media or Jim Wright about what a clownshow Colorado is. Or how the Colorado governor has BLOOD ON HIS HANDS! Of course, the Colorado governor is a Democrat. So, duh.

The NJ governor just ordered beaches open starting for Memorial Day. I'm sure there are tons of BLOOD ON HIS HANDS articles, right? LMMFAO.

If these fucking clowns want to make this a red state/blue state battle then have it. If that's the way the game is played the numbers don't lie -- Blue State governors are killing their citizens at a far higher rate than Red State governors.

Or maybe, just maybe, one coud make an effort at not being a fucking partisan prick that's posting total bullshit stats to support their crapass partisanship.

                                So, yeah. FUCK. THAT.
