  • Best idea I saw today was to re-name it "Flavor Town" after Columbus' First Son, Guy Fieri.

    • The last few weeks -- man -- you'd have to be blind not see where the Media is. Here it is to a lesser degree: https://www.nationalreview.com/corne...polis-edition/

You know the drill: The Democrats propose something insane, or Joe Biden says something daft, and all the headlines say: “Republicans pounce!” on this or that. It’s classic redirection. Never mind the principal buffoonery — look at these wicked Republicans hoping to advance their own agenda by pointing out that the other side has gone entirely bats!

This headline at the Minneapolis Star Tribune is “Republicans pounce!” in unabridged form: “Republican pounce on Minneapolis plan to dismantle the police.” That the newspapers’ headline writers would embrace such as tired cliche so unselfconsciously is testament to the fact that the media bias conservatives are always droning on about isn’t imagined.

      • I don't think there is any question that masks and distancing work, would have prevented a lot more infections and deaths if the US had been early adapters, and that cavalier attitudes about this simple mitigation measure will cause new disease spread that will strain resources in the places where they occur.

Arizona is such a place where cavalier attitudes are taking the expected toll:

In Arizona, a “cavalier” exit from the state’s successful stay-at-home program caused the sudden case surge, said former state health chief Will Humble.

Humble said Governor Doug Ducey let Arizonans voluntarily follow Centers for Disease Control guidance but must now impose measures like mandatory face mask use inside public spaces. A failure to do so will leave Ducey with two drastic choices, he added.

“He’s going to have to either A) implement a field hospital plan, B) do another stay-at-home order, or C) both,” said Humble, head of health professionals organization the Arizona Public Health Association.

AZ hit a spectacular, nation leading R(t) of 1.14 sometime last week (its back down to 1.06 as of today) but reading a bit about how State PH officials were pretty much laissez-faire (like Sweden) in dealing with the pandemic from the git-go is coming back to hammer them. Good example of how not to go about this with messaging that doesn't get the folks to take this seriously.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

        • Arizona's one of the first states where Trump said today that he's going to hold a MAGA rally. The first will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Florida and North Carolina also in his top 4.

2 of those 4 states are experiencing serious outbreaks and as Jeff will tell us, it's a dire situation in Florida.

          • On the same day lifelong New Yorker Donald Trump refuses to take Braxton Bragg's name off a military base (because heritage and winning!), NASCAR bans the Confederate flag from its events.

            • Who the flying fuck is Braxton Bragg? Any relation to Braxton Miller? Anyway, cool.

Serious question — who gets erased first—Andrew Jackson or Columbus?

Well apparently there are way more Columbus statues in the world, so, I vote Columbus.

Braxton Bragg was a traitor to his country, lost 90% of the battles he ever fought, and was eventually relieved of command due to incompetence, but otherwise an American hero. He ought to be a household name.

                • That doesn’t help much, but it sort of proves my point. No one knows who the fuck he is. It takes a lot to manufacture faux outrage and purity test over Ft. Bragg (which I didn’t even know was named after anyone).

But, Maoists gonna Mao. Cultural Revolution is coming hard.

                  • I’m with DSL on this. We have had 12 US presidents who owned slaves. Every single memorial or honor or statue for those 12 should be destroyed. Start with that cocksucking racist George Washington. And while we’re at it, Lincoln did say, “y’all southerners come back and you can keep your slaves.” Because we won’t be free until we hold all historical figures to 2020 wokeness mores.

(and Bragg was a shit Civil War general. Officially, he was chosen for his work in the Mexican-American war).

                    • Here's that despicable Maoist, David Petraeus, saying we should take the names of shitbird traitors off our military bases

It is time to remove the names of traitors like Benning and Bragg from our country’s most important military installations.

It's really sad that Talent and AA can't think of a single war hero from WWI, WWI, Korea, or Vietnam, that deserves to have a base named after them more than General Hood or General Bragg.

                      • Wha??

I’m in your camp, DSL. Please support my effort to AT LEAST have the mention of all slave-owning presidents expunged.

(also, lmao at that ‘appeal to authority’ attempt with Petraeus)

                        • And I couldn’t care less if you rename Fort Bragg or the city of Columbus, or the state of Washington or changed Hawaii’s flag (etc, etc) as long as it’s organic and not some ridiculous appeasement to SJWs.

2-Star General Paul Eaton who once commanded Fort Benning. He says the time has come to drop the names of bases named for Confederate traitors. He suggests naming a base after Omar Bradley instead.

                            • But, speaking of war heroes, Fort Kristofferson has a nice ring to it. Named after an Oxford graduate, captain, pilot, US Army Ranger, singer, songwriter, actor, hero.

Well, if some pandering, wannabe pol military officer has an an opinion on changing names, I am duty-bound to defer to his scholarly opinion on the subject.
